Returning player needs some info please.

Hey everyone, just returned to the game. I quit after release, played once in awhile while it was free, first time back in about 5 months or so. Loving all the changes, actually having fun which was a shocker to me. Anyway, just some quick general questions if anyone could be so kind to reply.

I plan on have Pug as my main. I'm up to level 15 at the moment and from what I understand that is the level range when people start grouping for exp parties. As a long time veteran of FFXI, I'm looking forward to exp partying but I'm not sure where to start. Do I need some "sub jobs"? Should I worry about having access to certain areas or such? How should I go about finding a group? Just shouting in Ul'dah?

Next question is about crafting. What crafts would benefit a Pug most? I was thinking Leather working, Weaving, and Black smithing but I'm not sure to be honest. Though I'd like to be completely self proficient, that would most likely requiring leveling up all crafts so I'd rather just stick to a few that go well together.

Lastly, this is a more general question. How is the economy? I know that varies server to server, but more generally is gil gather in much higher amounts in FFXIV compared to FFXI? I see people with things in their bazaars for millions of gil on a regular basis. I've seen people offering like 1.5mil gil just for repairs o.O Are these people insane or is gil acquired in much larger amounts?

Nobody offers 1.5 mil for repairs. Nobody buys the bazaar items for insane amounts (its extra 10 storage space)
Yes there is some extra gil in the economy but most items on wards are no longer needed and have become stagnant so they drop in price really fast. Especially since they lowered the input gil.

No subjobs needed as such.

Crafting is up to you there is no real benefit as almost everyone can craft something for you or you can buy it cheaper on wards.

Just stick to gathering and build your gil and buy your stuff is the best way for now. Crafting will set you back a long way and is something to do at the end.

He need subjob to unlock Monk which he need both at 15 Lancer / Archer not 100% that he need both but he still need it for the spell at least.

At level 15, Giant Crabs around Camp Bloodshore in La Noscea are great for EXP parties. Just northwest of Bloodshore, they start at Lv20 static, just NE of there go up to 21-23, just north of there 23-26, to the south, 23-29. As far as subs, you should level up Conjurer for Cure, Protect, Stoneskin and Raise. The other class skills can be obtained later. Hope this helps.

By the way, I used to tell new players to farm sheepskins in La Noscea, but as they no longer drop from them, I'd suggest doing Leves for gil until you're high enough to farm Karakul Fleece and such. As well, Pugilist and Marauder are great for general mob farming. ( ^^)b

They do, farmed some for my LTW about a week ago. Those are lv1 though, so getting them for money doesn't really make sense, it's faster to farm them yourself.

PGL is great at soloing stuff, I really love the class myself. It is currently not wanted for lv45+ content though (taking too much damage, small range, other classes easier to play). Might change with MNK, we'll have to wait and see.

For simple exping, you won't need any subjobs, but having CON at 14 for raise, cure, and protect really help. As far as pug goes, having leatherworker helps so you can repair most of your stuff. To get into a party, just sit around in uldah and shout for one.

The economy on Rabanastre is kinda wonky right now, and will undoubtedly become more unstable after the server merge, but will eventually stabilize later. However, nothing is TOO expensive aside from materia.

The repair for 1.5mil is a running gag. Usually the people who do that have 100/100 in their inventory, so if you try to repair it, it'll tell you you can't repair it because their inventory is full. Just trolling people who think they're clever to repair stuff for 1.5million.

Regarding parties, make sure you have your looking for party flag (located in main menu -> search -> your settings -> online status) up at all times. This is a relatively new feature that is often either taken for granted or forgotten about but a lot of the better party leaders use the search function a lot. Plus, it doesn't get in the way of soloing or doing quests/leves when you might otherwise be stuck sitting in a corner of uldah shouting yourself hoarse for 3 hours trying to get a party the more traditional way ;P

I also strongly recommend being in a good, friendly LS. A lot of players these days are all 50s but a lot aren't. Chatting about wanting a low level party might encourage others to level their lower levels with you, or at least they'll be able to share a lot of advice. It's very common for LS'es to provide free services, like making your equipment for you if you bring them the required materials or if you donate any farmed mats that they can use for others.

Here, use this site. Go to "other stuff" and it has a "mob finder" that shows you were all the mob camps are, and there levels, making it a great tool for leveling.

It will also answer most of your crafting questions.
