Text... tearing? Scrambling? Unsure how to describe this bug

I'm not even really sure what to say about this.
It started three or four days ago, and it has now become a constant issue.
Sometimes one or two names, Sometimes every name in a city.
There's no discrepancy between player characters and NPCs; that is to say, this happens to EVERYBODY.
Rotating my camera so that the name moves out of sight will often fix the issue for THAT NAME ONLY.

It has become extremely difficult to discern which NPCs and PCs are which.

Anyone else run into this issue, or one similar to this?

I pretty much had this issue permanently on my old AMD card. Was always amusing seeing literally every other member of my team running around my Trials Roulette as "Nidhogg". It's not just tearing you'll see, NPCs will have completely the wrong names as well. From what I could tell it's some sort of layer bug, incorrectly prioritising what text layer to show. I tried contacting support and their response to me at the time was "we don't officially support AMD cards". (I wish I was joking about that response but I'm not.) In the end I just turned all name plates to "show went selected", that fixed most of the issues.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Have you changed any of the options for names/titles in the character configuration settings (i.e. shortening names, changing color, etc.)? Does this change the scrambling at all?

You may want to try a clean reinstall of your graphics card drivers (and update them if you haven't already). Additionally, disable any overlays that may be present while playing the game (Steam Overlay, discord Overlay, etc.).

If these do not resolve the issue, please respond back with a a Final Fantasy XIV system report. Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
