Shadowbringers pre-orders: Let people have the earlier expansions now!

There's a lot of players who have no expansions yet, but they're getting to a point where they'll need them. Shadowbringers is available for pre-order now, and it includes Heavensward and Stormblood, but currently you can't access those earlier expansions by buying Shadowbringers until Shadowbringers is released.

There's also a "Pay Now" option on your Shadowbringers pre-order. Is there any way to give access to Heavensward and Stormblood right away if you choose this Pay Now option?

I think this would be a really good idea. People are hesitant to buy the earlier expansions right now because they'll just have to buy Shadowbringers later. And it's also making them hesitant to pre-order Shadowbringers, because it won't benefit them for another couple of months. They're feeling like they'll have to pay twice for the same content, just because of where they are in the game right now.

But if you let people have access to Heavensward and Stormblood right away by choosing that Pay Now option when pre-ordering Shadowbringers, you get your money now and these players are happy.

I really think this should be the policy. Make it happen, Square Enix!

There's a pay now? I thought that was automagical, I was wondering why it hadn't pulled from my bank account yet. Now I need to go find it I suppose.

While I love the idea of that, I'm not sure they'll do it because people might still want to buy Stormblood before then. I mean, I'd benefit if they did b/c I only have HW but I realistically can't see it happening. Would be awesome though.

People that pre-order shadowbringer but don't have Heavensward and Stormblood don't get those expansions until the end of June. Basically right before Shadowbringer launches.

Perosnally i agree with OP, and that they should just give them now with the purchase of Shadowbringer.

I think it would make it more friendly and inviting, but i know they want to milk this as long as possible.

Seems like a major oversight on SEs part to deny using SB and HW just because you pre ordered shadowbringers for X Y Z platform.
Specifically they got it from Steam and can't use those expansions on PC, all because shadowbringers didn't release.
Really REALLY stupid. Should still be fixed for others regardless.

If they want to play Stormblood now, they are going to have to purchase it. Purchasing a future product does not mean you get the current product for free. Once it is no longer the current product then they can play it without having paid for it.

I mean, that sorta sounds like a different problem. Or, the same problem with an added twist, anyway. In that case, the pre-order is irrelevant. It's always been the case that you have to buy expansions for the same platform as where you purchased the base game.

Yes, and Stormblood (bundled with HW) is 50% off for a few more days. So someone who doesn't want to wait 2 months for Stormblood content has this option as well.

That's great, too! I'm really glad that new players right at the end of ARR will not have to pay full price for HW/SB just to have something to do for the next several weeks, and then still have to pay full price for just Shadowbringers!

I was asking for everyone at that point to get everything for just $40, rather than $80; SE basically countered with letting people who aren't on as much get everything on a pace that suits them for $40, while people who are on more frequently and need more content faster can get everything for $60.

That's a really nice compromise! Thanks again, Square Enix! This has convinced me to go ahead and buy a Nintendo Switch in the near future, so I can play more of your games on the way to and from work. I'm looking forward to playing Octopath Traveler, FF12 and Oninaki!
