I find that surprising as mobile edition GPUs are scaled back for power and thermal envelope restrictions on mobile computers - are you running at the same resolution? The 5870 should outperform a 460m but computers are nothing if not surprising at times.

a discrete 460 with the 1gb of memory wont outperform a 5870
