    The "unable to check/update launcher" error

    Hello, i had this problem recently and after an extensive 2 days internet research i saw that many people had the same problem at various times (Usually after a patch or after trying to install the game for the first time). The only workaround i found is to create another account on windows 10 and try to run the game from this account, which worked fine.

    Although even after patching if i go back to my main windows 10 account i still get the same error and not being able to open the game from there. So i see this as a temporary solution mainly for two reasons:

    1) Some people in threads that suggested this solution (making a second account) said that they had the same problem again when a new patch released and had to create yet another account. Obviously this is not a permanent solution if every time you have to patch the game you have to create an extra account.
    2)I think its silly to have a second account only to be able to play FFXIV.

    All other troubleshooting like editing the cfg file in documents>FFXIV, changing DNS, clean boot, disabling firewall, disabling User Account control, changing the internet explorer settings etc have not fixed the issue.

    Has anyone figured out what is causing the problem on the main w10 account and why its getting fixed by just creating a second one and running the game from there?

    Obviously there is a difference between the two accounts that lets the game run, but i can think of anything else to try.

    Are you connected to the internet through WiFi or an Ethernet cable? Have any changes or updates been made to the network at all?

    Normaly through wifi. But i have tryed both with wifi and cable and it doesnt make a difference..
    No changes have been made to the network.

    i mean both accounts use the same pc/network/wifi/cable.At all times the one can launch the game,while the other gives the "unable to check launcher version error".

    So i did a little more testing with disabling windows 10 stuff on my main account with no luck..i still get the error and cant launch the game from that account (The launcher opens, then it tells me that i have to register with my SE account and then once i put account info to proceed i get the unable to check version error). When i log to the second account i made i can normaly log in the game.

    The only differnce of the accounts i can think of is my main is tied to my mail obviously and on my microsoft account, while the second, the one that can launch the game, is not (When i created the second account i selected the "i dont know this person's info option" and "add a user without a microsoft account".

    Also my main account is the admistrator, while when i am on the second account i have to put the administrator password to do anything with administrative rights.

    I tried disabling user acount control on my main account and didnt change anything. Is it possible that because main account is tied to microsoft and email account, that in some way interferes with the game?

    Honestly i have run out of ideas to try, also other mmos have no problem running from the main account.
