Agreed. I'd much rather have (client-checked) draw times on my bow and have my mobility thus checked and constrained somewhat (not Bow Mage levels, but still) than lose the ability to play in optimal locations for preemptive movement just because of a distance-based damage curve.
Also, do you know how annoying it is when your AoE heals don't work because someone decided to stand 10000000 miles away from the rest of the group?

Imagine that, but with every ranged class - Including good players - doing that.

Where you had positionals and would exploit them by spinning the target around just long enough to stab them in the butt, or by capitalizing on stuns to dash around and hit their flank and get back before the stun wore off and they turned around.

Also RIP when CC was an actual thing that actually made fights engaging... Nowadays everything has to be CC immune because "Muh mechanics!" (Not that this game actually makes bosses feel any different, with crappy fluff damage... Whats the difference between just rolling Regen/Adlo on a tank and negating all AA's between Busters and carefully chaining CC skills to lockdown a boss so they can't AA between busters other than the latter actually takes some thought and if you mess up you get trucked?)
