    Rune Knight: Idea's for a Melee Support

    Let me preface this with the fact that I'm not calling for this to be added over/before anything else, these are just my ideas on how it could be designed. Also want to hear what people think regarding it, or their ideas on how it could be designed.

    This would be XIV's take on the job much in the same fashion that Dark Knight, Astrologian, and Red Mage are XIV's interpretation of them.

    It would come down to the animators to really differentiate this from that of Dragoon and it's animations, but I believe and have faith they could do it justice and pull something off. And I see three ways that this weapon could be stored, either as a whole piece similarly to that of Dragoon, split in half and on the back, or split in half and stored similarly like ninjas.

    Gameplay/Mechanics:

    Rune Knight would operate with a Rune system that has a max pool of six runes that would be charged/filled by completing core melee rotations. Said rotations would yield different amounts of runes pending which one you're completing. The DPS rotation would naturally have higher potency's, but would only yield one rune. Whereas the Rune rotation would yield two runes, but the trade off is lower potency on said skills within this rotation.

    Now for the Runes and what they could be spent on and why I envision this as a Melee support.

    It could have a few various spells for attacking including one for AoE situations. What I'm undecided on is if there should be system within this system. For example can you move into casting spells with a three rune cost or should there be some sort of build up to that? Spending one rune unlocks your two cost rune spells and having spent three then unlocks your three cost spells. It would allow for a certain variance in how you play it or what your situation might be in fights. Having one spell that is the mandatory cast to unlock your two cost spells which would contain your AoE spell and another single target, then that would unlock your three cost which would be your big single target finish.

    As for supportive Rune cost spells that would make this a melee support my thought would be to have all support spells be a base rune cost of three regardless of what they do, which then forces you to spend runes in attacking to even get access to your supports.

    But why bother with support spells? Simple, because if designed properly what they mean for your party and you as a Rune Knight. Casting a support spell would benefit the person it's being cast on and partly on you as the Rune Knight. One spell could increase a party members damage by x% and a portion of that buff then falls back on the Rune Knight, at a lower percentage of course or maybe for a smaller time frame. Another could be a shield that again is also shared to the Rune Knight, decreasing party damage a little more. Another could be a "Refresh" spell that regens TP (MP is going away in Shadowbringers, unless that has been changed since announced) and a tiny amount of HP and again is also shared on the Rune Knight.

    Obviously there would have to be cool downs for the support based spells, otherwise they would have way too much uptime and therefore cause unbalance.

    One of the abilities for Rune Knight could be an Over/Fast-Charge ability that doubles the amount of Runes gained for completing rotations therefore increasing DPS output for burns, or a quick way to get party based support spells if needed. And an ability; that is on a long cooldown itself, that resets the cooldown for support spells for pinch situations.


    I'm sure there's some glaring holes that I may have missed, feel free to call them out. And if you have your own ideas as to what Rune Knight could be feel free to share. ^^

    The name of the job has been around since Tactics, so there could very well have been a thread about it before. I may have simply missed it, but if it already entails my ideas then my thread can simply be ignored then.
