That cutscene only shows if you got to a certain point in the 1.0 story. For all the new players, you come in on a boat/wagon to your starting city state and have decided to become an adventurer. And that's... really the only thing the game assumes about you.

Why you're going to your starting city isn't specified at all and even the answers you can give for why you decided to become an adventurer are super vague and have no nuance. The game almost goes out of it's way to leave you a blank check on why you decide to do things a lot of the time. The one thing it does kinda assume is that you as an adventurer and as a WoL want to help people out. Which is kind of a given for all RPGs with quest systems, so as far as I'm concerned, that doesn't really count.
