How Many Role Players Ignore That We Are From Another Land?

I do. It just made more sense to me someone from Eorzea would be more committed to protecting it than an outsider.

I also don't like the fact that we know nothing about our homeland(s). Who were our families? What are our religious beliefs?

I just decided my characters were from one of the countries we know about. Who else does this?

One of the reasons I like the Duskwight is because of that. My very first character was a Duskwight on Faerie.

That could be anything from going on a business trip while the realm rebuilds to coming to Eorzea for the first time. Other then traveling to your starting city-state of choice and choosing to be an adventerer, there's basically nothing said about the WoL's past in-game.

Actually, it is shown right in the very first ARR Cutscene we are one of the four warriors of light. This gets explained a bit more during the coils of Bahamut raids where we discover that Louisoix sent the Warriors of Light five years into the future where they appeared in a forest with no memory of that past but still had the desire to do good in the world after once again seeing the great evils loose in the world. You farther have one of THE GREATEST things revealed as to what ended Bahamuts rage.

Isn't that cutscene only for legacy characters though? As non legacy characters seem to wake up from the hear think feel "dream" on the wagon IIRC.

That cutscene only shows if you got to a certain point in the 1.0 story. For all the new players, you come in on a boat/wagon to your starting city state and have decided to become an adventurer. And that's... really the only thing the game assumes about you.

Why you're going to your starting city isn't specified at all and even the answers you can give for why you decided to become an adventurer are super vague and have no nuance. The game almost goes out of it's way to leave you a blank check on why you decide to do things a lot of the time. The one thing it does kinda assume is that you as an adventurer and as a WoL want to help people out. Which is kind of a given for all RPGs with quest systems, so as far as I'm concerned, that doesn't really count.

As a new (non-1.0) character, you're definitely treated as an outsider who isn't familiar with Eorzea at all. If I remember correctly the peddler remarks that you were having a nightmare and that you must not be used to all the aether. Which doesn't really make sense if your character actually is Eorzean - it's like they're trying to set up a "you-from-Earth have just arrived here and don't have a history in this world" kind of scenario. It's only gotten more awkward as we've learned more of the world outside Eorzea itself, and there are less in-world "vague elsewheres" to have come from.

I definitely ignore that suggestion. Aurelie is Gridanian and the game opens with her traveling to Limsa to study arcanistry. Simple enough, and mostly happening as shown.

Though on the other hand, I've never been certain whether I should assume she's a normal person or if at some point we're going to learn that we simply manifested out of the aether.
