Game is jerky with 40+ FPS

    Hello,

I'm having some issues with jerkiness in La Noscea, and to a lesser extent in Coerthas. My issues in La Noscea are usually worst around aetherye camps, but I encounter the problem elsewhere also. It usually occurs when passing through clumps of dense vegetation, but its very inconsistent (some bushes cause lag, while others don't). My framerates have yet to fall below 40, and the jerkiness manifests itself even at 56 FPS. I don't believe its caused by loading npcs and players in the camps, as the jerkiness remains even if I sit near the camp for several minutes.

EDIT: I also experience FPS drops when warping into a city (which is to be expected, I know), but there is no jerkiness accompanying it. I only experience jerkiness in the above zones.

    My system specs:
    i5-2500k
    HD6950 1gb
    8gb ddr3 1600
    Asus p8z68-v/gen3
    Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SSD

    My game settings:

    Video Settings:
    Windowed
    1680x1050
    2x MSAA
    8 General Drawing
    4 Background Drawing
    Standard Shadow Detail

    Graphics:
    Only hardware mouse checked
    Textures set to high

    Thanks!

Just set your fps to 30, there is no real difference that myself or anyone I have talked to can tell (outside of smoother flowing video) and your graphics card will run cooler

Its not an issue of FPS dropping though. My FPS doesn't drop below 60 in very many places, and I don't think there should be major choppiness at 56 FPS.

It just is what worked for me so I thought I would suggest it to help solve your woes

Since I turned my fps to 30 the game seems to run smoother with no visual difference. A few other ppl I know had the same issue you are having too and turning down the fps worked for them.

I definitely appreciate your suggestion. I'll give it a try, thanks.

Do you have any videos running in the background? Flash as well? Those use GPU now and when I forgot I left them on, the game gets jerky with my 5850.

Try changing to first person view. If that eliminates your issue, then it's camera stuttering, nothing you can do about it, not until 2.0 anyway.

Does the problem also appear in fullscreen mode?

Try this. I use a controller and I manage to get out of the jerky camera by going into/exiting first person, so the camera resets itself.

    Stick it in my Balmung.

I believe I have found the issue, but I'll have to play around with it for a while to be sure. I was using a windower program that simply centers the ffxiv window on the screen. With that disabled, the problem is vastly improved if not fixed altogether. Wouldn't have thought it was affecting anything but through your suggestions I was able to figure it out, so I really appreciate the responses. Does anyone know of an officially supported method of centering the window?

    Thanks for the help!
