With a "proper" grip, similar to how PLDs hold their swords, the blade can be easily twisted inward and used against the person wielding it. However, with a reverse grip, the blade is a lot harder to twist. There are other advantages as well, but those are more weapon and wielder specific, as well as more media based. But a reverse grip is a thing, and is very practical.
Actually, historically a blade up (regular) grip was much preferred to a blade down (reverse/icepick) grip when working with longer bladed weapons. Reverse grip on a long blade limits the angles at which you can throw a cut properly (i.e. with any kind of force) and lowers your reach with most types of cuts, at least with most Western systems of sword martial arts (such as what PLD is loosely based on).

Reverse grip was almost always used historically for the thrust, at which it's extremely good because you can put a ton of force into a downward thrust with a dedicated stabbing weapon (like a rondel dagger, for example).

On topic, a big heck no to the subject of multiple weapon types for jobs (especially scythes on DRK, greatsword or bust). Make jobs designed for those weapons, IMO

I think you misunderstood me. I was using PLDs grib as an example of a regular grip, not the reverse/ice pick grip. I was simply stating that a reverse grip, especially on Ninja makes sense. And that for safety reasons a reverse grip is preferred for a variety of weapons.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
