Not to play devil's advocate, but a reverse grip is slightly more ideal than what would be considered the "proper" grip. The main reason for this is because of our own anatomy. With a "proper" grip, similar to how PLDs hold their swords, the blade can be easily twisted inward and used against the person wielding it. However, with a reverse grip, the blade is a lot harder to twist. There are other advantages as well, but those are more weapon and wielder specific, as well as more media based. But a reverse grip is a thing, and is very practical.

Actually, historically a blade up (regular) grip was much preferred to a blade down (reverse/icepick) grip when working with longer bladed weapons. Reverse grip on a long blade limits the angles at which you can throw a cut properly (i.e. with any kind of force) and lowers your reach with most types of cuts, at least with most Western systems of sword martial arts (such as what PLD is loosely based on).

Reverse grip was almost always used historically for the thrust, at which it's extremely good because you can put a ton of force into a downward thrust with a dedicated stabbing weapon (like a rondel dagger, for example).

On topic, a big heck no to the subject of multiple weapon types for jobs (especially scythes on DRK, greatsword or bust). Make jobs designed for those weapons, IMO

I think you misunderstood me. I was using PLDs grib as an example of a regular grip, not the reverse/ice pick grip. I was simply stating that a reverse grip, especially on Ninja makes sense. And that for safety reasons a reverse grip is preferred for a variety of weapons.

Wow, I honestly don't know how to interpret that video. Are you agreeing, being funny, sarcastic, or did you honestly not understand what I said.

The easiest way I can probably simplify what I was saying, without coming across as rude is this; there is a reason they say don't run with scissors.

It's an explanation of the weaknesses of reverse grip with shortblades, done completely in poetic form.

I get what the video is, and what it's trying to say. I was just asking why the poster posted it; were they being sarcastic or were they trying to "prove me wrong".

The guy in the video shows you a lot of ways a reverse grip is bad and a proper grip good, but why doesn't he mention the negatives of a proper grip and the positives of a reverse grip. Throughout the video he is demonstrating THE major negetive a proper grip has and probably doesnt even realise it. Just to note, he specifically is talking about fighting. I never said fighting outright, I just said based on our anatomy a reverse grip is more ideal and practical.

Like I said, the easiest way I could probably say it without coming off as rude is, there is a reason they say don't run with scissors.

You said this specifically in response to a quote of mine where I stated:

...but then again, reverse grip is wholly unpractical for actual fighting >.>

I never stated "Reverse grip is bad" in the general sense. I stated specifically for fighting.

Now your stance is that you weren't talking about fighting...

Then why did you even post in the first place to try and dispute my point about reverse grip being unpractical for fighting?

Reverse grip and dual wielding are very poor techniques in actual combat, not because they cannot work, but because they're vastly inferior options that heavily limit your capabilities and most importantly, your own safety.

There are times when they are useful though, such as during grappling situations, a reverse grip is a lot easier to utilize than any of the standard grips (Such as Hammer or Handshake).

I can't. I'm sorry if it was misunderstood, but I wasn't trying to dispute your point. Just trying to show a "positive" about a reverse grip most don't realize.
