I never seen anyone say that about the app once.... I think you're overestimating the number of people who'd go through that much trouble just to get access to more crafting items. Kinda reminds me of everyone who was super worried that the companion app was going to let people get a monopoly on the MB because they could pay to change their prices every five seconds. Not enough people want to do that for it to even make a dent in the game's economy.
I can't even be bothered to buy/sell those crafting items on my main, and I'm an omni-crafter. If I'm doing custom deliveries on my alts, it's to get them the gear.

This seems to be the most accurate.
Not sure about any one else but in all the MMOs I have played I had a ton of alt mules. Imagine here you could have a ton of alt mules each with alt mule retainers.

Wouldn't make a difference with the mail restriction of 5 items per mail. Way too time consuming for my taste.
There was a glitch that allowed you to friend your alts but IDK if they fixed it or not, it involved DCing while going into an instance or something like that, you can google it if you want. Pulling it off lets you send mail to your alts.
IMO there's really no excuse to not let you mail things between your alts on the same server or add them as housing tenants. It really feels like SE made the game assuming nobody would ever want more than one character and that even letting you have alts was an afterthought.
Aside from the above glitch if it still works, your options are pretty much:
A. Use the MB to xfer gil by selling cheap stuff for high amounts. Or to xfer items but you'll need to be careful with how you price things so someone doesn't buy it while you're swapping characters.
B. Use a FC chest to xfer gil and items. This assumes your characters are in the same FC and have access to the fc chest to freely remove items.
C. Get a friend you trust to hold onto stuff while you relog.

They patched that after a couple weeks; you now need to wait for a full and complete logoff from one character to login as another.

I agree the game is really alt-unfriendly and I'd like to see us have the ability to trade between our alts.
As to not needing them, well a lot of things are unnecessary but still provide a lot of fun for people and a reason to stay subbed when you have completed all your goals on your main. You only need one mount for example and minions, glamour, hairstyles etc. are all completely unnecessary but I would hate to be without them as they add a lot of richness and fun to the game.
Considering having more than one character per world costs extra, I think those of us that do enjoy making alts are poorly served.
I believe the restrictions might have been an attempt to curb RMT but since a single-person FC is easy to make and circumvents most of the difficulties in moving cash or items between characters, I don't think there is any justification for maintaining them. I enjoy my alts but I enjoy the social aspect of the game as well and would never consider isolating myself in a single-person FC. It's a shame that this is the best solution available right now.

No you gotta suffer like everyone else.

Unsubbed for well over a year due to being alt unfriendly. Came back because I spaced the reason I unsubbed in the first place. I won't this time.
I can see nothing has changed. I know there is work arounds for some of this, but NOT options I like. It's just dumb, to not have EASY trading between your alts, period.
If RMT is the real reason, well it's dumb too. Still get RMT messages in game still, AND this is the ONLY mmorpg where I see it.
Enix - You don't need alts, you can do it all on one char.
Me - So, you don't want me to play another class, and you want me to GRIND jobs rather than quest. (really, you don't want us to play other jobs either)
Who ever thought that would be FUN? Some might like to grind, but it's got to be God Awful Boring at times. Just saying.
