Today, I learned new things about materia:

To add to this, sometimes a partial meld on a stat is better than a full meld on another stat.


In other words, don't just say "I see red text. ABORT!" Try to put a little thought into it.

Also, since I was unaware of limit, I had many slots filled with +10 materia that was only giving me a 0-2 result. If you want to top off a stat with 2 more points, use a cheaper, low level materia that will give you just enough. n

However, I can't believe that having another +2 of any stat could be better than a +10-15 of something else beneficial.
(Are there any published stat rankings that show the actual percentage benefits of each one?)

I said 2 missing, like a scenario where the materia gives +40, but actually melding it would only give +38.

There is a crown you can earn for melding so you can use those cheap materia that were about to meet the vendor onto some cheap gear instead (or go gil blazing for some fancy penta meld gear you'll actually use lol).

Also you can combine materia for a /chance/ at a different better materia (even different type of materia).

I want to add that when you combine the materia, you will never get the same type of materia out of it wich you used for combining.

For example when you used a crit+ materia for combining you will not get a crit+ materia as a result. So keep that in mind when you throw some lower grade materia into the mix. A crit V materia will make it impossible for you to get a crit VI out of it.

Don't throw already great tier materia into the fire, but trash tier materia is quite welcome .
