If there's one thing that I've come to absolutely LOVE about Final Fantasy XIV is its ability to pull lore from other Final Fantasys, and still maintain its own unique presence. I'm a longtime Final Fantasy fan. I've been playing them for over 20 years. Heck, my character's name is Vox Velius; a callback to Velius of Final Fantasy Tactics (before he became Belias)-- so I love the in-game callbacks to other Final Fantasys-- especially Stormblood's Ivalice storyline.

What sets Final Fantasy XIV aside from other MMOs is not the graphics (even though they are top notch). It's the vast wealth of lore at its disposal that Final Fantasy has created over its 30+ years of existence. I can't help but feel that the reason FFXIV's PvP system leaves much to be desired is because it attempts to stray too far from what makes Final Fantasys great in general-- that is, an innovative push of the player's limits in a way that not only feels rewarding, but actually IS rewarding. You gave us Triple Card Triad, you gave us Chocobo Racing.. but now I think it's time you gave us Blitzball!

I feel as if though Blitzball is Final Fantasy's answer to the question of PvP. Of course there will be those who are beholden to the traditionalist view of PvP, and for those players, there's an option. But I know I am not alone when I say that there's is a market for players who want to compete against one another in a more Final Fantasy oriented way, like with Blitzball.

Just think about what could be possible. Free Company teams. Tournaments. Rankings. Exclusive prizes. A person need not log in to grind the various grinds, but to practice their game and compete!
