How I resolved DirectX error under Windows 64 bits

If you have experienced the game crashing and displaying an DirectX error, you could try:
    1. I had the same issue on both Win7 and Win10. Upgrading windows won't solve it.
    2. Use fullscreen (not borderless)
    3. Disable any pop-up from other application or the other system (like windows updates)
    4. Use DirectX9
    5. Don't use overlay application (like ACT)
    6. Close your anti-virus
    7. Close your firewall
    8. Install the latest GPU drivers (just the drivers) using "Clean installation"

    Optional:
    • Clean installation of Windows
    • Disable all not necessary services using msconfig
    • Downclock GPU (both GPU and Memory) using MSI Afterburner

It seems it solved the DirectX error for me. Hopefully, it would help you too.

Edit 1: I use DirectX9 for few days with no errors (or maybe just once). Then I switched back to DirectX11 and I had a crash after 2 days. Definitely DirectX11 is less reliable than DirectX9.

Edit 2: I downclocked my GPU, it seems to really improve the stability

Edit 3: The time the game crashed with DirectX11, I had one other opened application. My advise, make sure nothing else is opened. Since then it seems stable.

This is still something that needs to be fixed with the game in the long run, this is... ridiculous. >_>; I appreciate you going through all the things you've tried!!
I tried most of these already without success (Only thing I haven't done is a clean install of windows and disabling *all* unneccesary services since I'm not tech savvy enough to be sure I won't botch things, hah).. For curiosities sake, how far did you underclock things? this is the first time I've had to underclock so maybe I didn't do it enough/right. I'm willing to reinstall Afterburner to try, plus I have a Nvidia thing I was going to try possibly as well to underclock.

I downclocked as much as MSI Afterburner allowed me. I believe -200 Mhz on the GPU.

To disable the services, Windows+R, type msconfig, then press Enter. Tick "hide Microsoft services", untick anything else. Enter and reboot.

Thank you for the specifics! I'm going to try both things shortly and report back.
Thanks for making this thread and getting more specific for me!

Edit: I think it worked! In DirectX11 too, though I was and am prepared to try in 9 if the error returns. But so far so good, got 3 hours or more or play time without the issue I think c:

It is worth noticing that PC froze for no reason using DirectX11 (I was AFK). I have now reversed to DirectX9, and I haven't experienced any issue since then. I am a bit worried about SE abandoning DirectX9 in the next expansion...

Yeah that would worry me too. I actually had issues trying DX9 earlier, but I think it related to it being fullsized ect (different error than usual, and didn't even get a chance to freeze), and I still had a few of the 11000002 error/freezes but that's when I was trying a few extra things while playing (streaming it, discord overlay, ect - I was just kind of testing water to see what it would do) + one time I forgot to turn on Afterburner. Plus I tweaked my afterburner settings (mine goes down LOW, -400 on GPU and -450 on the Memory), to line them both up at 400 and so far haven't had another issue?

I hope they not only don't abandon 9, but maybe work out what is making this such a prevalent issue for folks - as again nothing else has ever caused my laptop issues other than this specific game, lol.

This issue stopped for me after I upgraded from my 2010 gaming PC build just a few months ago. Though I still continue to have that annoying controller problem where it goes null for about a second every so often.
