my biggest concern atm. i'm on ultros (primal) and i don't see many groups in PF when i'm around late at night, and sometimes it takes a long time to get a DF queue, even as a tank. what will happen when we lose a large portion of the pool of people we can play with? will this game be dead for us late nighters?

My qeues on EU at ~8pm became longer (=not immediate) after split so I suppose it takes some time to proceed at late night. Probably will be same for US servers, but I think it will depends on population on your DC.

I don't see anywhere where I can check server/DC population so I don't know. I think Aether is probably bigger though because that's where all the big name servers are like Gilgamesh etc. so yeah.. i'm concerned about this :/

The PF (at least on weekdays) was pretty dead on the EU-catacenter (even before the split) past ~1am on weekdays, so if you're already having trouble now (which is understandable if you're playing during time when most people on your DC are actually asleep) I doubt it will get much better...

In regards to the game being dead for you: Have you considerd moving to a server where "late at night" for you would translate to "midday/early evening for everyone else"? Latency might suffer a bit, but maybe thats a price worth paying to keep queues at an acceptable level.
In regards to the PF you also need to consider that we're at the end of the expansion, so unless you've been observing this dead PF for the past years, I'd factor in that a lot of people have no need for PF-groups anymore right now.

I'm on primal and I never have these issues. But it really depends, if you are on the west coast your late night might be slow queues and small party finder, especially since we are in the downtime period between expansions.

Primal datacenter should be fine, imo. I'm EST so Idk about your activity issues, but the raiding community will still be there afaik.

I'm on Ultros (Primal) which I find queue times start's to get long starting around 3AM EST to about 9AM EST. You know something is going on if you queue for Palace of the Dead and have to wait for around 30-45 mins to get in. Any another time I get in right away or only have to wait 5 mins.

that is a good point. i just came back to the game a few weeks ago after a long break so i haven't been able to observe anything. as for transferring... nah, not worth it for me. if anything i'd consider transferring to aether or something.

server transfers will be free at the end of this month, for 2 weeks. (Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but it might be worth to take advantage of).
