I'm seeing all sorts of stuff about "gender lock" on the two new races, as if SE is purposefully withholding content from us, and that female Hrothgar and male Viera exist as playable races, but are "locked" from us.

The thing is, making another gender of an existing race is the same amount of work as making a single gender of a new race. You can't just slap boobs on a hrothgar and call it female, you have to make an entirely new model, and you have to match existing gear to it, you have to make all the new customization options, and the list of things just goes on.

The fact is, it takes the same amount of manpower and effort to make a single race with two genders as it does to make two races with a single gender.

They did not have the manpower to make two races with two genders. They've told us this, and they've said that because they wanted to include hrothgar, a concession had to be made.

Yes, I do believe the other genders should be created. But no, I don't believe there's any locking, malice, personal attacks on sexuality, or anything of that nature that I've seen in the general hubbub that is these forums.

We got a nice thing. We had to lose another nice thing to get it. I'd say have patience, and that the extra genders will come eventually.

well i think most of the people wanting both genders can agree with you - SE has explained themself on why they have locked the other genders out(yes gender lock) and also that it takes much work to create and implement the missing genders - this was never in discussion, so i don’t know why you assume most of the people wanting the gender locks removed would think so.
yes there were people being very emotional about it(and there still are people throwing the sexist card) but there will always be exceptions. most of us are calmly „protesting“ while showing artworks and such. i don‘t know why it‘s so important to create a thread for exceptions?

also no matter how you twist it - it is a gender lock. it is very self explanatory: lore wise male viera and probably female hrothgar exist. if you are only able to play on gender of that race, the other gender is locked for you - even tho it hasn‘t been created yet.

Edit: They also said if there is enough demand, they will think about unlocking the missing genders.

Ppl acting like just cause male buns and female big cats are not available now means they will never come.

Don't ya think it's gonna take them more time and money to makes the additional models as well as make sure the gear works properly? cause IIRC Viara and Roth can't have headgear displayed for the time being. How long it take before fem Roes and fem highlanders to be added? Even with NPCs of them before they got playable it took a couple years.

If it happens it happens, if not there are already "ways" to do so if you look around the web.

And I rather SE add another potato race like Dwarfs or Gnomes.

It's almost as if the term doesn't imply that there something locked away, like say a class that is only available to one gender. Which is what actually genderlock means.

If the assets don't exist, there isn't any lock. There needs to be an open state first available, for a lock claim to be made.

But keep up the mental gymnastics to twist "something we really want" into "something that should've existed already". It's very entertaining.
