It pretty much shows the state of MSQ roulette right now; the best way to make playing this roulette bearable is to...not actually play it.

It's mindless and lazy like you said - and many people will happily do it. The plus side for new people is that there is a steady flow of willing participants to help carry them through.

What's not needed are the people who are trying to rush the CSs using some of the various tricks that are out there and potentially ruining the experience for the new-player, which is exactly what SE does not want and why they implemented this in the first place.

So if you're one of those people who can't be bothered to just wait out the CSs, simply don't queue. It's not hard to avoid.

Alternately, it's a way for people to get exp by helping new players through the 2 least queued for story dungeons.

There's so much complaining going on by people who have completed it. You don't have to do the roulette.

It's fine the way it is. It's not even that much of a time investment. It's maybe twice as long as the average dungeon run. It's not even that bad.

The exp grind is pretty monotonous. I freely admit to being lazy about it. If I can get extra exp while I eat, cool.

However, the main purpose of the roulette is to get new people through the last two ARR story dungeons (and not harassed for skipping cutscenes in the process), and it's doing that. I feel like if SE added it to the trust system that'd probably be better, but for now it's at least somewhat functional. I doubt they'll touch it at this point.

What do you mean not playing? Letting a cutscene run its course is part of the game. It's not like you're having to push buttons while it's playing. If you can multitask during cutscenes, then more to you as that's staying productive with your time and not being lazy.
