They're different types of "roleplaying" though.

A regular single-player JRPG isn't roleplaying in the sense (as in this thread) of "act out your individual character", but stepping into the role of a pre-defined character and controlling them through the game.

Note that this game gives you the "Roleplaying" status for the sequences where you play as another specific character.

However, some people tend to actually spam macros, which can be annyoing (but I personally don't mind really). Still, sometimes such reactions... I had macro on HG (Holmgang) which said that I used HG and it will be good to have some heal. Some oversensitive healer asked me to remove it because he "is not blind". I did it. Quess what? Next time when I used HG I dead because this "not blind" healer didn't heal me, cuz he was concentrated on something more important than his dying tank. That be said, if you use macros on important skills - keep use them, you never know.

those 2 words have vastly different meanings, bud.

in this modern age, an RPG in the video game realm heavily focuses on character advancement and storytelling (all FF games, Dark Souls, Witcher), not necessarily acting out your own roles. In the context of this discussion, I'm referring to your unique RPing as your character(s) for whatever purpose. These games aren't entirely void of RP, but its not their primary focus.

You're referring to DnD like games or video games specifically tailored to RP (2ndLife). I guess my point is, No, not all RPGs are the same in the sense everyone cares about roleplaying. The genre has evolved immensely over the last 30 or so years.

Not all RPGs are focused on RP in generall, it's true. Still, calling somebody a weeb/creepy/stupid/etc because he likes RP when you actually play Japanese RPG is just wrong and well it's not okay in any case (I saw a lot of people who thought that they have right to insult other players just because they like RP) .

If you decorate your in-game house or think at all about your glamour, you are using pretendy-times and guilty of Roleplaying. Sorry to break it to you, but you're playing Final Fantasy, a nerdy roleplaying game. You're not better than people who pretend to be "in character" and you're not even different from them, except you think you are. And you imagine yourself to be better than said people for unknown reasons.

Idk what "pretendy-times" means and I'm not advocating insulting RPers. I have a lot of friends dedicated to RP with their linkshells, houses, in-game names, FC's, etc. You say I'm not different from them, but that's not even what dedicated RPers say about ME. When they're RPing, they have to go OoC to talk to me as I ruin the entire thing bc I just walked in their house or something. We're not talking about the same things here.

I spend a lot of time working on glamours but never has it been associated with RP, idk where that comes from. For w/e clarification, I'm someone that separates myself from my character, I am not them, they do not have a story or background that I dictate (outside what the game gave them). Im also not arguing we're not playing an RPG, I primarily only play RPGs. I just don't actively "role play" or seek out RPers. There is a clear distinction between RP and non-RP players.

I recently went to Mateus because I couldn't bring friends to play on Balmung with me and I have to say I've generally loved the RP community there, just adding my two cents.
