If you really need macros for rp, you can use /echo so they appear for you, but no one else sees them. That way you get the benefit of rping your skills, and everyone else gets the benefit of not having multi-line rp macros spam chat.

RP server wouldn't help with this anyway unless you only play with people on your server as duty finder is cross server. (And there is no officially designated RP server as far as I know, so people can still be annoyed even on a so-called RP server.)

If so, which ones are they?
The main RP servers are Balmung, Mateus, and Omega. But "awesome" macros are not appreciated any more there. Such macros are usually more annoying than awesome to other players.

If yuo want to go to RP servers I would recommend looking into what servers are going to be in the Crystal data center in a few weeks and consider one of those. You can always world visit Balmung or any other servers on there. From the sounds of it we'll be the RP data center.

Especially since a lot of raiders are leaving to stay on Aether, so qeue times might end up longer for a bit but people will always make new statics to clear EX content if you're looking to do that.

Crystal will be the RP data center and Malboro will be moving there, so you should be fine very soon.

I'm only being half serious, even in a RP server you don't want to attach annoying text macros to common abilities, text macros are only there to inform people in your party, like who you're raising, or if you're low on MP and need refresh, flavor text macros should be made with /echo at the start so only you can read them.

As of the new updated rules flooding the chat log with useless text macros is a bannable offense.

I don't understand why some people equate flavour macros to RP. Do they have any idea what RP is?

The purpose of macros in party chat is to inform the party that you used an important cooldown, let them know you got it so somebody else doesn't have to, or to make it clear that you won't be able to do it again for a while. Abilities that I think everyone should have party macros for are Swiftcast+Raise combo (this is mostly so that someone else doesn't waste mana and Swiftcast raising the same target), Refresh and Mana Shift cooldown notification (if someone asks) and Living Dead (this one 100%, healers need to know it's happening). As well as others for more situational applications (for example I started using a Chain Stratagem macro after the billionth time the other SCH in my party overrode my chain. One would think the spell's own sound cue would be enough but apparently not.)

And adding a flavour message to it is just a way to make it less dull. It's not what RP is and it's not what people on RP servers do all day.

Granted, if you are using macros with messages that are long and elaborate, people may be annoyed by lack of clarity. In those cases, you can probably fix it by frontloading your message with the name of the ability you used and the target. So for example , "[Raise] <t> Your Message Here" rather than "Your [Raise] Message <t> Here".

If your message is already short and clear and you are still running into people complaining, that's no longer your fault, it's theirs for being boring and devoid of hopes and dreams and a reason to live. Just ignore them.

You're thinking of a whole different scenario Bonbori, the scenario we're thinking of is people adding a text macro to their dark arts button so it basically spams the chat every time they use it, or ASTs with yu-gi-oh type macros every 30s when they draw cards, those people are clearly trying to roleplay their job.

Siren is a pretty tame RP server. But yeah if it's combat macros you are referring to, an RP server isn't going to help much. If you have many custom macros for let's say, throwing gil at people to "shake it" of playing lalamon go, then an RP server will help, lol.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

    Oh...

That's not RP either, that's trolling.

I mean, there's this tiny seed of evil deep inside me that would love to make a Broil macro that goes "ALL SHALL BROIL!" but I'm also a (relatively) well adjusted, (relatively) sane person who only requires a fraction of a second of self-reflection to understand all the ways in which that would be a terrible idea. I'm willing to give the OP the benefit of the doubt and assume that they are not subjecting random people in dungeons to something like that.

Don't chat spam macros, there are few good reasons. Here are some of them. 1. when you queue to DF you are in cross server instance most likely, so you meet the people who you want to avoid with these macros in the first place 2. you ruin the reputation of RPers overall when people see the cringy macros and 3. if you want to RP, RP proper and write your emotes on the spot, would you think its fun that your RP partners just use stock macros for replies or whatever else you might be doing.

    Also this.
