Am I the only one who feels a tad bit like I failed, or just feel kinda bad/embarrassed in general if I fall right before the final boss does? Even if it’s my first time fighting that boss. Don’t get me wrong! I’m happy we all won, but still.

Really depends on how often it happens. If it happens every boss fight then yeah, maybe a little. But if it's only once or twice every other dungeon or something then nah, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I consider a fight a complete failure if any party member takes avoidable damage.
And if I'm the one who derps, it upgrades into an utter unmitigated disaster and irredeemable shame upon 10 generations of my bloodline, both ways.

i was falling asleep in a dungeon once. completely nodding off. the only thing keeping me awake was the weight of my head falling down and waking me up. For some reason the poor healer fought hard to keep me alive the entire time. somehow we cleared the entire thing w/o me recalling anything other than commencing the dungeon and then standing before the final boss.
idk why i felt like sharing, but thanks for putting up with us.

Ugh! Yeah, this is a problem for me when it happens. Not only do I feel like I failed, I also feel like I got carried. I know it's just a game, and I shouldn't let it get to me but I don't like to lose. It's even worse when the group is victorious, but I underperformed in the duty. This happened to me when I was in softball as well. If we won despite my crappy performance it was very invalidating, and I don't feel like I was needed at all. I feel like it would have been better if I was never there.
There have been a few occasions where I have done 'redemption runs' before proceeding with completing a quest that requires a duty clear. In fact, I won't clear them until not only am I on my feet when the boss dies, but I am also satisfied with my performance, which usually requires that I don't get KO'd at all during the encounter unless it isn't my fault.
Did i die because the tank died or didn't tank properly? Nope i don't feel bad. Did i die as a tank because the healer didn't heal me? Nope still don't feel bad. Did i die because i screwed up a mechanic and got killed by avoidable damage? Hm...nope still don't feel bad, just annoyed because i messed up.
The only time i feel bad is when i have a perfect opener and i forgot to use diversion before...tankbusters hurt tho. Thankfully that doesn't happen more than once or twice a year. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Pretty much the exact same here, where I left the text. A clear is a clear, but it bums me to hell if I'm the one getting caught messing up mechanics and making others scramble to play catch-up from my lacking performance. If we won despite my crappy performance it was very invalidating, and I don't feel like I was needed at all. I feel like it would have been better if I was never there.
