I assume what was meant was that they should add monster marks (numbers that appear over the head of monsters) 1~9 (and 0 or 10) that the whole party can see and use and hook up <m1> and such up to that system.

I'm not sure what purpose self-only numbering would serve, but I would like to hear what you might use it for.

Self numbering would be useful since a party is composed of many different classes. For example, a conjurer and a lancer don't have the same primary targets (the conjurer is healing the tank while the lancer is attacking a target). Having self numbering allows you to set your own priority targets while group numbering would be useful for coordinated fights like the Primal Moogle battle.

We don't need this as a Healer can main target the tank and sub-target using P1-9 as markers for his targets.

Being a healer myself I generally just use the party list to heal anyway, so there is no need to target in the 3D environment.

Maybe I misunderstood what you meant though.

Mostly, it would be useful for macros.

For example, a macro to heal your tank fast:
    /ac Cure <m1>
    instead of
    /ac Cure <st>
    or
/ac Cure <pX> (which you would have to change for every party as your tank is not always in the same spot in the party list)

All you'd have to do, at anytime, is select the tank and assign it the tag <m1> with a simple command. You never have to adjust your macros again. And, if later you want to solo, you can assign <m1> to yourself for some quick healing. See?

Of course, just like anything, it's not something everyone would use, but it would really simplify things for many. Just like <bt>, <st>, <p1>..<pX> (I don't even use that last one).

And for the subcommands <bt1>..<btX> shared by the whole party, it is for easier coordination during intense fights.
