Players really need a vote to skip cutscene option, instead of just choosing skip.

After having experienced many great cutscenes and boss introductions in Final Fantasy XI, in Final Fantasy XIV via the primal battles, and the Final Fantasy series in general, i've come to the conclusion that the entire player base would greatly benefit from a vote to skip cutscene option, rather than just allowing players to skip whenever they want.

An option to vote to skip cutscenes rather than just any players being to skip when they want, would allow new players to see the cutscene without having to worry about the rest of their party skipping and starting the battle prematurely, or even someone accidentally skipping and starting the battle timer. This also prevents confusion on whether someone wants to watch the scene or not.

Honestly, most of us want to watch the boss cutscene the first time though, and we shouldnt be penalized just because of that. Alternatively, the battle timer shouldnt start until everyone has finished watching/skipping the cutscene.

I agree with the above statement.

I like this one more, for the simple fact that voting implies majority, majority being players who already saw the cutscene, resulting in it being voted to be skipped.

Better yet, the new player should simply tell the party it is his/her first time and wants to watch the cutscene.
I do, it works really well and requires no coding at all from the devs.
There is a bonus to it too, it improves a person's social skills.

I agree to this, but players should be bound to a short perimeter around the entrance until everyone is done with the cutscene. Otherwise, I can already see players trying to exploit this to gain a few more seconds on the timer.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

If this worked it would be fine, but many times it doesn't, having seen first hand how people don't read party chat and just bumble straight in with 1 or 2 people stuck in a cutscene.

Yea I'd prefer preventing the battle timer from starting until either everyone has viewed/skipped the cutscene, leaves a small area at the entrance, or begins an action against an enemy. There could even be a status effect shown on a character to show that they are watching a cutscene.

Also, if you skip a cutscene for something like entering Ifrit/Moogles it should always skip from then on until you log out.

As above suggested a small area at the start to run up, BCNM used to this in 11, that would be a good idea.

I agree with the OP. And there are a lot of good ideas in this thread.

As far as voting is concerned, I would imagine that a cutscene would only be skipped if everyone voted to skip. More like an "agree to skip" than a "vote to skip".

But yeah, barring that kind of feature, it would be helpful if there were a status symbol to show that someone is in a cutscene. Also, timers should be suspended during cutscenes. Other party members should be temporarily prevented from running too far ahead/engaging the boss, preferably with a system message letting them know that some people are still viewing the cutscene.
