I thought Green Mage and Time Mage are the same job, all about buffing and debuffing spells that work over time.

I always thought the Conjurer was a green mage, you start out in a garden themed area and the first thing you do is swear to protect nature and see no harm to it...then your first quest is to go slay a bunch of animals. ^^; "I'm getting mixed signals here."
It's like you expect to come back and everyone gasps in horror, "how could you?!" "You told me too!" =T_T=

Green Mage and Scholar share nothing similar if you actually played FFTA-2 so I'm not sure how you got that. Also scholar is completely different in the other final fantasy games as a gimmicky dps (or atleast what i know from tactics) at the end of the day I just want a character who uses a mallet truth be told.Final Fantasy XIV has pretty much absorbed Green Mage into the Scholar Job, just like it has absorbed Time Mage into the Astrologian Job. I highly doubt they would implement a full Green Mage unless they completely overhauled Scholar, which is possible but unlikely. I understand Scholar and Green Mage are not 100% the same thing, but the essence of Green Mage is very apparent with Scholar... their spells are even Green.
those magic classes dont use melee attacks so bringing them up as using blunt weapons was pointless to me completely.
i don't remember green magic much but wasnt it mostly oil, faith, bravery purpose
Green Mage wasn't even useful in A2 because Gria and Juggler's existed.
RDM is piercing.Monk's aren't the only job that use blunt weapons, but they are the only ones who benefit from the debuff. MNK, WHM, BLM, SCH, and SMN all deal blunt damage. Blunt damage users outnumbered the other damage types until HW, where AST and DRK brought the slashing damage uses up to 5 as we'll. Then with SB we got SAM and RDM, who are also slashing. And now with ShBr we are getting GNB and DNC, both of who should be slashing... boy SE sure does love their slashing damage.
Speaking of Time Mage, why isn't Haste a usable spell in this game? I would think AST would be able to use it. This has probably been discussed before, but I don't really frequent the forums very often.
There are a few haste spells in the game, SCH and AST have group ones and WHM has a selfish one.
But if you're looking for the classic version, we had this discussion a long time ago. The answer really boils down to; Haste is brokenly powerful. To bring it over to a MMO environment as-is from single-player gameplay would require re-tuning all content around it. And since it would then part of every strategy for every boss ever, would it feel as powerful?
I wouldn't think single target Haste would be all that powerful if it came with an absurdly long cooldown and short duration. You buff one DPS one time every, let's say, 2-3 minutes and have it last 5-10 seconds. Most boss fights rarely last long enough to be able to use it more than twice anyways. There are a few haste spells in the game, SCH and AST have group ones and WHM has a selfish one.

Haste was a staple back in EQ, it was a requirement to have a bard to constantly play haste songs to help the party out. EQ also had/has a very different combat system than FFXIV, so it is irrelevant. (I just like EQ a lot, so I bring it up when I can.)
FFXIV does have a few hastes as others have pointed out, but they are not a constant buff, rather intermittent. The closest you get to a constant haste buff is the Astro's arrow. I you can constantly draw them and place them on the right job, it could be rather OP. But as the cards are RNG, and you will rarely ever get the same card more than 3 times in a row ... the haste becomes largely irrelevant in boss fights.
