As a fireball-throwing turret, I'm ok if trying to end a fight quickly means getting smacked once in a while. Dying at the end just means I simply overestimated my output.

I sacrifice myself on purpose occasionally during horse/birb/doggos farm at the last 3-2% if I can because we must give blood to the blood gods for fortune to follow.
Nope, not really. It's a game and we're human beings, not robots. We're gonna fuck up sometimes.
If I die at the start of a boss fight that I'm unfamiliar with and we get a clear, then I feel like I was just a carry. But if I die near the end I feel like a friggin' champ for making it that far.
Funny story about the first time I ran Titan HM: I went through as SCH and managed to survive the whole way. Pulled the instance again later that day when playing with SAM and thought to myself "I got this, it's easy." Ate the first landslide and died immediately.
This took me a long time to get used to coming from WoW.
In WoW you have very limited combat rez's. Thus content is designed around this, outside of high-end things don't outright kill you as often, they just hurt and tax the healers and several classes have cheat death traits.
In FF14 you can rez all day. Therefore they have no problem giving some bosses the capability to kill an inexperienced group 3 times over, because you can rez up, healer lb, rez up some more and win. (This applies mainly to Normal mode content). I've seen almost entire alliances in current 24 mans die 3 times over and still rez up each time and win. Dying is a lot more normal in FF14, but it took a long time to shake that feeling that I'd completely failed if I slipped up from time to time.
I only consider it a failure if my death causes a wipe. Sure it sucks to die right at the end, but things happen and we all mess up at times.
If it's a constant issue, though, I'd recommend making some alterations to your play style.
If I'm having a bad day and/or underperforming I may get increasingly frustrated the more I die regardless of the when and where. Otherwise it doesn't really bother me unless I end up dying in some crucial phase of a raid or Ex fight. A clear is a clear. It doesn't always have to be pretty.
My first clear of Titan normal mode: victim of first landslide in the fight, yep, total carry, but I don't feel it was a failure on my part. I blame using a keyboard and mouse and have switched to using a gamepad ever since, much easier to dodge AOE with it for me.Still amazed I got that far with keyboard and mouse as an ACN/SMN.
Thanks for the responses everyone! I haven’t been dying a lot, but when I first did the final final fight with blonde haired pretty boy who I swore was a girl the first time I saw him, but then I remembered I’m playing an anime game lol. Anyway, I fell off the edges right before he died. It made me feel horrible, like I couldn’t even survive what I’ve been building and training up to.
