FFXIV already has better character customization than Warcraft

I know that BDO character creator is popular, and I've had my small share of fun (and pain) playing with it, but I wouldn't put it as a sample of what I want my character creator to be like. I personally find BDO's extremely difficult and unfriendly to use; it's easy to mess your character up in big ways. Plus I find the hairstyles limited, even if you can deform them in the most ridiculous ways possible.

I guess I prefer Blade and Soul; it's a happy mix between FFXIV and the extreme difficulty that BDO is.

WITH THAT SAID, I don't overly mind the XIV creator in XIV. I would like to see facial options unlocked within an entire race (e.g. Eyes/mouth/nose will no longer be locked to faces 1, 2, 3 4, etc - you can mix and match with all options within the race). That alone would make me quite happy and could really broaden the types of characters we see in game, all while still keeping perfectly normal appearances.

To give an idea, these were some really quick mock-ups I made a while back in MSpaint (dem skillz!):




These may not be the best examples, but they are pulling various facial features from all the faces in the race.

While I do enjoy really expansive character creators, it can also be a bit overwhelming to me as you have SO many options for what you can do.....and I want far too many! lol

Assuming you mean MMO games, OP, I'll go along with what MistakeNot said about Age of Conan. It's not as pretty as this game, but the sliders were very real.

Not MMO? Sims 3 or 4.

Star Trek Online.

STO is why I don't want FFXIV to give too much optimization. I don't want to see deformed characters running around the world.

Instead of continuous slider, I rather prefer SWTOR's discrete sliders, which should also help with adjusting each gear to every possible option.

FFXIV has better customization then Warcraft, but Warcraft has more diverse races. In FFXIV its Hyur, short, tall, pointy ears, cat ear, horns etc. I love FFXIV, but when it comes to races, their lore, their lands and how they look, Warcraft beats FFXIV. The Xaela was a great start and my favourite part of Stormblood, Square Enix needs to give all races this treatment.

I understand not adding very beastlike races, because of redesigning armour, but we lack common stuff like more beards, tattoo's, long hairstyles, more make up options. I want to give my character blush and have different make up options. On my male character, I want to see more beards and for the love of Aidios, give us more faces!

How is this even a topic? The answer is BDO. There is not one single character creator in any game that even comes close to the level of customization that exists in that game. They could probably even sell just the character creator as it's own stand alone thing.

The character creator and glamours are 1000 x's better in this game than World of Warcraft. Their race variety however, ( Not just having different sized humans ) blows this game away. Warcraft also fleshes out in-depth lore for each race; something I'd like to see change in FFXIV

and while at DC Universe Online: in that game, as soon as an item becomes bound to you, it's "glamour" look is now part of your character and you can at any time just change that gear piece to that look. Best Glamour System, period.

Clothes wise DC might be better due to how their system works (not actual styles thats a whole different story) but actually creating your character in that game is very very limited.

Also people complain about the Mog Station in this game, I'd hate to think of how they'd react to DC universe's selling items lol.

Tera Online also has a better looking dragon race, I wish that FFXIVs customization of the Xalea could make them look similar to that.

Just to touch on this point - F2P games have a different business model than subscription games.

Back in my day, all we had to pay in a subscription game was the subscription itself - everything else was included. That has sadly changed. F2P games have to get their cash flow somewhere - enter the cash shop.
