Overall I'm happy with the way the character creator works. All the characters I've made look really nice, because they have nice preset design pieces that look good.

I'm not bothered that other people are able to create the same or similar characters - I'm able to make them unique for me.

There are always going to be little things that aren't what you're after, but at the large scale they give a good range of options.

Perhaps it's different if you're starting with a preconceived character idea and want to recreate that idea in-game, but from the starting point of "play around in the character creator until you find something that looks nice", it's great.

    WoW I think it's a bit split.

Yes, FFXIV's races have more customization than WoW's races do.

But WoW has a far, FAR greater diversity of races.

But ARR came out in 2013 and WoW in 2004 it's not exactly an achievement to have a better CC than a game almost a decade older than you. (Looking at ARR's release date since it was such a major overhaul from 1.0.)

Better in all aspects? None that I can think of.

Better in some ways? Age of Conan allows you to make much more detailed adjustments of face and body shape - not only if you are short or tall, but if you are big or thin. It also allows you to have various body markings/tattoos.

and while at DC Universe Online: in that game, as soon as an item becomes bound to you, it's "glamour" look is now part of your character and you can at any time just change that gear piece to that look. Best Glamour System, period.
That's less about the character and more about the itemization. You can't change how ugly those faces are, your heights are fixed, facial hair is fixed to hairstyle (why male characters have like 10 times more options than female characters only having less than a dozen) and sizes are restricted to "sickly", "guido-jacked" and "swole AF". That being said, I do agree with you on the gear customization since it's like the transmog catalog in WoW but useable regardless of location.

I'm actually fairly content with the character creator in XIV. Sure, we could open up more hairstyles that are currently race-locked, but mainly because I know what I prefer to play and don't really stray too much from it.

This depends were you come from. Wearing a helm or mask, a lot of people wont care what their face look like, but everyone cares how their characters clothes look out of the gate, without itemization.

I agree that DCUO in particular has a different set of issues with faces, though. I still like that how their body actually looks dressed up is considered part of their character customization, and not necessary itemization (although they still lock some looks behind acquiring new gear.)

Overall, though, I'm happy with this game's face/body editing. I don't expect much drastic changes to ever be introduced to an MMO, but I also acknowledge there are lots better things out there.

Those fancy waifu creators that come attached to boring unfinished MMO's and massive cash shops tend to have nice character customization...

It's not 'great' but I actually kind of like the SC VI CC, though it's not a MMO so I guess that doesn't count here.

WoW came out in 2004. They shouldn't be your measuring stick. Black Desert blows XIV away when it comes to character creation.

I find that all the detailed customization doesn't really matter, since this is how I see of my character in the game:

The only time I see it's face is in the character select screen, and that's only until I get the two clicks done.
