    Repeated connection problems

    Good evening all,

fell in love with this game recently, but run into a plethora of issues in the last week and a half. Was a long time FF fan but always held off doing the MMO side of things, the ride has been quite amazing, until recently.

Unfortunately I sunk in buying both expansions after my 14 day trial ran to a close, only to get to the end of my first month and having constant disconnection errors.

This has ranged from "The lobby server connection has encountered an error" to "Connection with the server was lost" 90002

I am an Australian playing on Cactuar cause most my friends who play FFXIV reside in America. Connection here is running smooth as silk (no problems in any other games, international or local) and this issue has only occurred as I stated towards the end of my first month.

Reading online forums this doesn't seem to be rare, so I spose my question is, do I get reimbursed for these constant issues and the days re-ticked back when I can't play when it seems to be server side issue?

Has anyone found a fix for this particular issue? As the range of responses are quite varied I am unsure where to start.

From what I gather, a lot of players have this experience in their own regions so I am not overly keen to swap regions to have the issue continue at great inconvenience.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    DiG.

As this was the reply to any others recently with similiar issues I thought i'd jump the gun now

Running a wired connection (smooth 50mb/s hour in hour out worldwide)

No program/firewalls running and no software has been installed in this last week that will have changed connection ability, most likely software relate change was the patch/update recently.

Up until the last 24 hours I could at least get in for a bit, then it would drop intermittently, now it's become all but a constant. Maybe i get into the actual game, then the 90002 occurs.

All other programs are standard running programs (such as the Nvidia suite, MSI suite, discord, and usually a browser on the second monitor for reading through msq details, hunt logs, etc)

In terms of what i've tried to alleviate the problem, basically looking up and finding a lot of people seem to be affected by this with no consistent reason bar it's to the ffxiv servers

Is there data on the ffxiv server end showing how many disconnects, etc, lists when there's a higher normal proportion following a patch?

Cause being an mmo, one that you pay for the server service, disconnects are just ruthless to the gameplay experience. One a night for a paid service is borderline unforgivable, but this is just painful ):

Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

What are you doing in game when you are being disconnected? Is it when you are logging into a character? Or when already signed on and playing? Were any changes made to the network at all? Also are you connected via WIFI or Ethernet cable?

    Hope to see you online!

This occurs both when logging into character and also when signed in and playing

Zero changes have occurred to the network

    Connection is via ethernet.

It's probably that there's a network issue somewhere between you and the SE servers. To confirm this you'd need to do a traceroute at the time you're having an issue. For Cactuar you can use the IP 204.2.229.9 which will show your route to the Aether datacentre.

Unfortunately if it is a consistent routing problem you'd have to lean on your ISP to change your routing (they probably won't) or use a 3rd party VPN service to do it for you, but one thing at a time, best to confirm this is actually the issue first.

Thank you for the reply DiGNiTYFoDDeR. I apologize for the delay in our response.

As the above poster mentioned, one possibility is that you are running into a routing issue, however, we can't tell for certain whether this is the case without a trace route.

I'm not exactly sure what you've tried to alleviate the issue, so this may be a bit redundant. Here are some troubleshooting steps you may want to look into:

    1) The game will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer, then open the "Tools" setting, go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.

    2) Check the following Port Ranges on your router/modem to ensure that they have been opened:
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040
Your ISP can open these ports for you.

    3) You can also try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Well I am glad this thread stayed open...

12 days without an issue, and same issue all over again.

Attempt to login and same issue, get in then booted, then if I am lucky, I get kicked mid dungeon... So there is some group that just lost their tank mid dungeon in HW (specifically The Aetherochemical Research Facility) - sorry guys out of my control.

If it was a routing issue- would this be consistent and not 'disappear' per se like it has the last fortnight (roughly)? Like it's not a self-correcting issue.

I can likely attempt the number 1 solution above

number 2 i am quite removed from doing that sort of thing so has anyone got a basic run-through on the how to?

Unfortunately if this is anything like last time with my errors, it will continue non-stop for the next 48 hours then magically disappear then I can play again, yay... kind of \e/

But yeah am definitely curious, if it was isp related or routing- would it have 'fixed itself' like it has for two weeks then suddenly go like this again? Cause it's not happening to any other game played in any other country for me.

EDIT : going by the trend in recent issues - this doesn't seem to be isolated which concerns me
