game freezing and long r0 periods

for the last week or so randomly, with full wifi strength and no apparent reason my game will R0 for upwards of 10 minutes (that's the longest i've waited) without responding or disconnecting, sometimes restabilizing itself at very random intervals. this can happen only once in a while or once every 10-15 minutes, in any area. i have never had this problem before. very annoying when crafting!!!

    edit: i r0 but never disconnect <--

recently i was trying to reposition one of my retainers and now, whenever i try to call that retainer my game will freeze. i have to disconnect my wifi for the game to log me out. i've tried restarting my computer, switching areas multiple times and even calling the retainer at a different ward. my game freezing with calling this retainer is a separate problem but also one in the same because it replicates the problem-all of the other times stated in the previous paragraph are totally separate!

    why is this happening!?

When you start R0-ing run a tracert and see who's dropping your packets.

i don't quite know what tracert is but i'm going to google it and check it out. do you have one on hand that you can recommend? and how should i read it? is it pretty self-explanitory?

In command prompt do tracert -h 50 traceip.ffxiv.com

    example:

    C:\WINDOWS>tracert -h 50 traceip.ffxiv.com

    Tracing route to traceip.ffxiv.com [202.67.52.81]
over a maximum of 50 hops:

    1 12 ms <1 ms <1 ms 134.42.39.2
    2 <1 ms * <1 ms [134.42.45.30]
    3 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.22.18.42
    4 * * * Request timed out.

you're looking for the * * * and the corresponding server that is causing it

    2 31ms * 226ms c-67-162-240-1.hsd1.de.comcast.net [67.162.240.1]

the * changes lines and columns each time i do a new trace

    different trace: 8 199ms 202ms * tyo-e4-i.TYO.JP.NET.DTAG.DE [62.154.5.226]

    different trace: 4 82ms 25ms * xe-4-0-0-0-ar04.whitemarsh.md.bad.comcast.net [68.85.134.97]

    different trace: 10 200ms 198ms * 61.195.56.133

this is all when my game is 'frozen' after i tried to call that retainer so i cannot see my s/r to see if i'm r0 but i cannot move or input any commands except talking. i can talk to my ls just fine and receive ls chat etc. cannot open menus; /shutdown, /logout does nothing. macros do not work.

my game has currently been in this state for probably 20 minutes and i've been waiting for a gm for 45...

different trace: no * but still cannot move/act only talk

It looks to be an issue on your end,
try running a chkdsk on the drive that is holding your ffxiv install
    update drivers for mobo/nic/gfx

    but to confirm no network issue is causing this;
do a ping -t to the server that is * on you
for example ping -t 68.85.134.97, let it run for a good minute or 2, if it's not dropping packets it's not the culprit
