Sighs, I miss the days of EQ and FFXI communities, most of the players I see now wouldnt last at most 2 months in those, or heck even a week progression-wise. Most any toxicity will result in you being ostracized from the entire server, thus your forced to either jump server or change names, both of which was not really available in the early years of those two mmos.

Knew this Taru-taru once, was in a FFXI Static with him and 4 others to grind to 75. One day I got the stomach flu and had to rush to the restroom to throw up every 20 mins, it was on a saturday a prime time to grind, but the taru-taru wanted his levels, wanted to get up to 75 quickly as possible to join those who didnt work a job at endgame content. He left the static simply because of one bad day when I could not play.

The Taru Quit 2 months later when no one wanted him in their HNM/Sky/Dynamis LS's.

    Sighs....miss those days....

Those games had their own brands of toxicity. This isn't a new phenomenon.

Eh they did, but it was dealt with within the community most of the time. Heck, GMs didnt really intervene. Unlike now where you got most players who refuse to learn how to play, expect to get carried, then cries out if things are "Unfair" just cuz "I pay a sub like everyone else"

Heck, most dont even go to these forums for information anymore, everyone tells me they get their info from reddit or in their FC/LS Discords for information and news, due to over 98 percent of all threads being just complaint threads. Meh.

Sighs, if only WoW didnt happen....

As for the bots. Tbh the GM Taskforce did pretty well in finding and eliminating them once they put it together. Thats why Gil between CoP and Wings was so expensive to buy online. Getting enough gil to say, get a Relic weapon for example, would have costed around 1500 dollars. Since RMTs were constantly found, and banned, thus the price would go up.

Honestly, I think they did a better job than whats going on in XIV now. From what I am seeing, SE is just letting them do whatever, and most of them farm Shards, hence why the prices are so low, since no one wants to farm shards. Tbh a good thing really. Probably why SE lets those particular Bots be.

I don't know if your server is just a weird case or something but I almost never see shard bots on mine. They mostly go after ephermal/unspoiled nodes so they can farm mats to produce the latest relevant crafts, though there is a mob of bots (Whom I suspect to all be owned by the same person given certain evidence) who farm gather/crafting scrips instead.

Allowing cheaters to dictate the economy in any form or fashion whatsoever really is not something that any self-respecting MMO would do, though. Even if they were such an essential part of the economy, any price spikes caused by their removal would eventually level out to be appropriate for the amount of demand and people would just adjust and start getting shards themselves.

I never heard of gathering bots.

    But that's really terrible.

You can usually tell if someone is using one based on their pathing and whether or not they jump. Someone using a gathering bot will /always/ take the same route over and over again and will always path in such a way that they avoid jumping entirely. They're pretty common once you know how to spot them - and sadly very hard to report.

I haven't done too much gathering recently to notice. And maybe i have seen them but just never knew.

Regardless botting needs to be stopped. Its the bane of every mmo.

Its pretty much impossible to stop, even with those "anti cheat" malware programs some games use. The bot creators find workarounds each time the devs impose different checks, and its basically an endless cycle. What the devs can do is ban more "normal" players, make it a known thing that botting = ban. nothing they can do about rmt bots.

I can never, for the life of me figure out why some people let others dictate their enjoyment out of the game. No matter what side of the parser argument you fall on, stop letting other people you most likely don't even know outside of the game control how you feel about whatever game you're playing. Good luck.

Parser in itself isn't bad but many use it to cause negative experiences for others.

Hunt radars I don't think have been a thing since ARR because people like me renamed their chocobo after an A or S rank and would run around the area where said hunt mark would spawn. I flushed quite a few out by summoning "Marberry" on multiple occasions just to watch 5+ people show up in my corner of the map within minutes.

Bots have always been a bane on MMO's. However the most effective ways of combating them aren't legal in some regions.
