Request: Add a lantern feature

The darkness in this game has always been one of my complaints. I suppose they're trying to keep the hours & feel of night more realistic, but in an MMO it's kind of annoying to me. I swear it feels like 95% of the time I want to try and take a screenshot, it's dark. Or raining. Maybe both.

If they could tweak the night hours to not last at long, or maybe stretch dusk/dawn, I'd be thrilled.

A lantern could also be a nice touch

FYI... you can use the Wind-up Moon or the Wind-up Sun Minion as light sources for screenshots.

In addition to that, you can also place up to 3 light sources in /gpose. You can tweak the placement and strength of these lights as well as the RGB values.

Lastly, you can freeze the time of day and weather effects in /gpose now. You also have the ability to tweak emotes and facial expressions without leaving the mode.

Do you have sweetfx or any post processing running? Maybe your monitor isn't calibrated right.

It wasn't dead of night in the first shot - it's now only 10pm in game. But yeah, I do use stormshade + various filters depending on what I'm looking for.

I'm still not a fan of the night...which I am allowed to just not enjoy

Well, the thing is, those increase the amount of light or dark. So for you it may be a big mess of black, but for most it just looks slightly dark. Most nights in this game are incredibly bright.

One reason I stopped using post processing was because of the oversaruration it does to all scenes. Dark becomes black, and light becomes blindingly so

I will normally turn off stormshade at night if I'm not taking pictures for that reason. I promise this isn't my first day playing this game or using filters.

E: And sorry. This is coming off far snarkier than I intended (which really wasn't intended at all). I get some people are fine with the night as it, it's just not my thing in this game. No biggie. I really wasn't trying to detract from OP's topic. I had simply posted that picture because I found it quite amusing that I was just commenting on the OF about night + rain, and then I exited my instance into that exact scenario.

Anyway, I still think a lantern could be cool D:

That may be true but some might not realize it

Im surprised daily by what people take for granted haha.

There's also the brightness slider in options that may help.

And if you wanted to do something about it, the TOOLS are already provided in game for you to adjust the lighting.

I don't think the dark in this game is anywhere near as oppressive as it was in Dragon's Dogma, where it was somewhat of an actual game mechanic.


Maybe a lantern could be a neat mechanic in a boss fight or even an entire dungeon, a la Crystal Chronicles... but then that's verging on mechanics that could potentially be too hard for some.

Yes, there are tools for taking screenshots. Or if I want to idle by a minion that doesn't move. What do I do with the other 99% of the time I'm running around in game while it's night? It's not an affront to the game if I don't enjoy something, no need to try and blame me for simply not taking advantage of the "TOOLS".
