If you are having trouble paying for equipment repairs, you are doing something wrong. Just playing the game normally should provide more than enough gil to pay for all repairs needed, and it is not that hard to make more money if desired. This doesn't solve the problem of repairs. You're avoiding the issue of repairs.
Repairs cost too much at the NPCs. So value over time becomes a factor in choosing whether or not to self repair.
And self repair is MASSIVE for raids, dungeons, or Eureka. Repair costs are too high. It keeps the new players poor and the crafters rich. Trickle-down economics at play.
I 100% disagree with you. It makes sense for repair level requirement to go up as the level of the gear goes up. If you don’t want to keep leveling to repair then go to a mender npc its what they are there for.
Please square enix don’t listen to things like this thread D: people complain about the simpliest things that don’t need change.

Sorry OP, but your request is not necessary.
Main subject of crafters is crafting. Being able to repair their own (and hopefully soon others) gear and melding is a side benefit of having a crafter leveled.
Even for new players there are plenty of ways to level crafters. As example one of my raid members plays since around christmas and now has 6/8 crafters at 70, while just playing casually for roulettes, the raid and doing some stuff with his crafters.
All i see here is someone wanting to claim the benefits but not wanting to work form them.
Absolutely disagree.
Crafters constantly meeting their level cap deserve the right to repair their own gear as they worked hard to get there, on top of their normal goals of supplying gear for the raid team and themselves. Repairing gear doesn't even cost that much either so it's a non issue, you really only need to do a single rou to get more then enough gil to repair all of your stuff. Melding is even more of reward as it lets them optimize on their gear, which getting to that point requires so much effort between leve quests, GC turn ins, and job progression.
The current system works great and it's all the more reason to raise your crafters up for those extra benefits, but especially to be thankful for your raid crafters for helping you max out your builds as you can't do it yourself.

It confuses me when people say repairs/teleporting is too expensive. Under lv50 perhaps. But, you get gil from the MSQ, side quests as well as selling dungeon only items via retainers on the MB. Glams from PotD can still sell rather well depending on the World. Need Aetheryte tickets? Hunt. If you work for it, then you will have it. I made millions just selling the crystals I'd accumulated from playing for so long.
It might seem daunting but it's not as though it's impossible. I have several crafters to 50 on my first character. I made a new one in HW and didn't bother much with crafting. THEN, I made yet another new main character for Stormblood. I took the time to level every single crafter and gatherer to 70 (I still have 2 left - armorer and fisher! But they're almost there!!). Did it take time? Yes. Was it daunting? Sure. But it can be done and if you want to level those things up, then you'll do it.
I don't think there are many people who level it up for repairs. Most do it because they like it or because they want to be able to make their own stuff without having to spend so much money. Or they want to make money. That being said, repairing from a vendor isn't the worst thing in the world. I did it throughout HW and it really wasn't that bad at all and it acts as a pretty decent gil sink which this game sorely lacks.
