The 500k is for furniture you can't pick back up. That rug you can though inventory space is an issue I agree
"Fanboy is gaming jargon used to describe an individual that has gone beyond the point of being a PC or console game fan and, during online chats or discussions, shifts to defend the program at all costs, unable to take any criticism or acknowledge any shortcomings of the game or gaming console."
Or just pick it up/make the space for it.
The compensation is for items you can't pick up (like half eaten food items). Anything you can pick up you should. If you don't have the room, don't transfer until you've made room to pick it up (or know that you will lose it).
Like others already said, what are you at risk of losing if you think first?
Paintings in picture frames - those are only 1k each.
Flowers in vases - 500-700 gil for the majority of colors, maybe a few thousand if you're dealing with rng for white/black/rainbow
Fish in aquariums - cost of bait if you fish yourself, most are pretty cheap on the MB if you don't.
Partially consumed food items.
Wall coverings on blank partitions - this is where the bulk of the lost gil would occur since other expensive interior fixtures could be replaced with very cheap items so they would go back into your inventory.
If someone isn't ditching those stacks of cheap potions in their inventory so they can use those slots their expensive housing items instead, they're doing it wrong.
