EU Server & Data Center Languages

For those thinking about switching to another EU server now that data centers are split, here’s a spreadsheet from Reddit with some numbers of their language distribution. Probably not very precise, but still interesting to see.

I wonder if it was intentional to put the majority of French players on one data center, and the majority of German players on Light. And if it was, why not just officially designate French and German servers?

During FanFest when they announced the split, they had mentioned looking at common languages the community prefers.

I'd also assume they don't want to officially state something similar to the "RP-server designation" excuses: If they officially declare one server to be German/French etc, they don't want to open players who don't speak German/French to be ostracized or harassed or have people think they can send reports about them not speaking the language.

Right, that makes sense. Creating new German and French servers would fix that problem, but I'm not sure if enough people would want to switch at this point. Maybe after the release of Shadowbringers though, if there's an influx of new/returning players that could fill the new servers easily.

Is this only looking at the language of the game client of players? Or is it taking into account players who flag themselves as being able to speak multiple languages?

I'm blind. It clearly states this in the file. I just didn't see it the first time.

Honestly this would make it so much simple for new players if we had an official statement (like a small flag when you choose your word when creating a character).

I get their current position because for instance on Zodiark we are not "branded" as French speaking yet you can find several big communities of French speaking players. So I guess it's a bit like that on each world.
But yeah, having an official indication would have made a big difference, although we can all fall back on English when needed.

Yeah, that's kind of the problem with all this "unofficial X server" stuff. I don't think most new players do research on the servers before they create their character. They just pick whatever and look for a community in the actual game. But good luck with that if you end up on Shiva and only speak French, or Moogle if you only speak German.

Yeah, that's why I'm not sure how accurate it really is. I don't know if only looking at the game client language would be much better though, since the interesting part is the language they speak, rather than the language they play the game in. Either way, it's probably a decent approximation of the actual ratios.

why is everyone speaking french now on the chaos data center? is it the light for English ? cant understand why it changed so quickly. even during duties the most common language is french. im confused
