How did you choose your name?

Despite it's massive faults, I like Fairy Tail and shipping. Nashi is both a mashup of the two main character's names Natsu and Lucy (pronounced Rushi in Japanese) and the fandom name for their hypothetical daughter. Heartneel is just a mashup of their two last names Dragneel and Heartfilia.

I found my name in the game "Neverwinter Nights" , one of my favorite games , ever.
There is a clumsy Elf that cause more damage and destruction , and even death , by trying to help.

My current name (Fenix Down) originally came about as a joke. I couldn't think of a name. I sat there for an agonizingly long time trying to come up with something. I joked to my friend that I should name her Fenix Down, since I always play healing roles in every MMO so this wasn't going to be any different. I wasn't serious about it but my friend laughed out loud and said it was hilarious. "I don't think I'd want a healer named Fenix Down in my party." they said. We had a good laugh so I went with it.

But, I'll probably be changing servers when the free transfers open up and Fenix Down is, unsurprisingly, taken on my server of interest. Phoenix Down, too. Sad as I'll be to see it go since I've been using the same name since beta, I'll have to find something else. I think I'll still keep Fenix since I find it cute on its own but the last name will have to change.

For me i admit that all of my names are sequences of syllables that I thought went well together. Except three. Aisling happened because i wanted a reference to Secret of Kells that I had just finished watching when i made the character. Tenar and my recent alt Dune I made in reference to the Earthsea books.

My name's from the Megaman Battle Network series, the Japanese name of one of the major characters in the series. I actually had the same name in the previous MMO I played as well, so I've been using it for about eight years now.

To me, the name now has a different life of its own, due to things I've done in the previous game and this one. I only meet a handful of people these days that actually know where the name is from.

You aren't incorrect with 風歌 also being able to be pronounced Fūka, but in her case it were the literal words for wind(kaze) and song(uta). The main reason I suggested Fu/u over Kaze is because Fuu can mean air, which to most English speakers; that and most people know of Typhoon/Taifuu, so Fuu would be a far stretch. Kanji aren't as easy as one meaning and one reading, and some word combinations that we'd use in other languages, would require the の/no particle; I believe wind song would be one of these words 風の歌. But it can be confusing at times, 青空 and 青の空 both mean blue sky, but they are different some how. I guess it's similar to saying it's my PC vs a PC. Words are hard, lol

After reading your reply, I think you're right. 風の歌 seems to be a better translation for wind song. But yeah words are hard.

You could use an analogous name. Though probably NOT Garuda for obvious reasons. Simurgh or variant spellings might work. or how about Zarptak, Ohnivak, Zumrudu, zhuque... Of course this is as long as the problem still applies.

Funnily enough, this my other method for choosing names when throwing random sequences fails me: I get my big book of world mythology, open it to a random page and then find a name or reference that i like.

My name is Tiniel Cerulis, previously my nickname was Tinibou so Tiniel is a kind of derived name and it sounds more like a fantasy name.
Cerulis stands for "cerulean" like his (and my) blue eyes hahaha.

My name is Vianna Gladiolus.
The name, Vianna came from the same name I had in FFXI. I was really into V names then, and I read some book (I forgot which) with a protagonist named Anna. So I guess that was in my head. The surname, Gladiolus, came from the flower. Since I was a conjurer from Gridania, it felt fitting.

......unfortunately, FFXV came out, and now everyone thinks I'm making a reference to a game I never played. -_-

I searched fem'qote keeper naming conventions, saw Cemi as a firstname example and Lanbatal as a surname example on two different names. So I merged the two together.

Though I pronounce it with a hard C, like Kemi. Sounds better in my books.
