How did you choose your name?

Every one of my characters has a different reason... so I'll share all 4.

Main character, Laura Adalena. Originally not a lalafell, I chose Laura because it was a name I liked. And Adalena is a type of flower that sounded cool.

Xell Adalena. Xell is a username I go by elsewhere, and inspired by Zell Dincht from FF8 because I'm as much a loud, obnoxious, chicken-wuss as him.

Carby Mc'Buncle. Carbuncles.

Oh'no I'. I saw a speedrun of Pokemon that named the character "Oh'no I'" and I thought it was hilarious watching the dialogue of it.

Celi Roronoa

People will probably think this is weird and cringy (since most probably don't care for shipping) but the name "Celi" is the name of a made up child of Zoro and Sanji from One Piece that I thought of. And "Roronoa", the last name of Zoro. Not the most creative, but who cares, right? As long it is a name I love and I have loved this name since I created him (he was created at a time I was really into Zoro and Sanji, still love Sanji tho). And if I ever did change his name, I would only change his last name. I am way attached to the name Celi.

I agree completely Names can (and are, in my opinion) be important so they should be something you like and feel comfortable using no matter what other people think.

I first look at the random name generator to get an idea of that the common names are for the race/clan, then I try to "adapt" to it the name I'm used to have everywhere.

Name of a character of mine in a story that maybe one day I'll scrape up the courage to get published. Though after creating the character and hearing people mistakenly pronounce the name, I may want to change it...since I actually made and named her before 'meme' became common knowledge as a concept. It's supposed to be 'ah-may-may' XD

Uhm, shouldn't you read "風歌" as "Fūka". The only on-reading of "歌" i know and have learned is "ka". I could be wrong though, as Japan being Japan, most Chinese character has multiple on- and kun-readings, especially with names. I've heard people sometimes need to ask how to read their name when they recieve a business card.

You aren't incorrect with 風歌 also being able to be pronounced Fūka, but in her case it were the literal words for wind(kaze) and song(uta). The main reason I suggested Fu/u over Kaze is because Fuu can mean air, which to most English speakers is synonymous with wind; that and most people know of Typhoon/Taifuu, so Fuu wouldn't be a far stretch. Kanji aren't as easy as one meaning and one reading, and some word combinations that we'd use in other languages, would require the の/no particle; I believe wind song would be one of these words 風の歌. But it can be confusing at times, 青空 and 青の空 both mean blue sky, but they are different some how. I guess it's similar to saying it's my PC vs a PC. Words are hard, lol
