How did you choose your name?

Viertes Oscurita is short for Vierte Sohn dell'Oscurita, though if I went all German it would've been Viertes Dunkelheit instead. It means "Fourth son of Darkness"
The name is inspired by Kenshiro and a Kingdom Hearts track called Forze dell'Oscurità. (Xehanort's Keyblade Armor boss theme in BBS)

I used a generator because I wanted to be lore-correct and straight up panic-slapped on a last name off the top of my head and I have to admit it flows quite nicely.

Sometimes some names just click I think and you don't have to think about it any more than that. I have a friend who can just come up with awesome names in seconds and feel a little jealous of him sometimes, usually when I'm having trouble coming up with a name

My main's name just follows me around now, but originated from my WoW RP writing main (not a fan of in-game RP), who himself didn't exist in the game until Legion.

How I happened upon the name was simple. I was writing up an RP concept for collaborative RP, and I created a character just for it. I knew I wanted the last name to be Stormchaser, but I was stumped on the first name. As I was working on the details, I was watching the Saint Seiya: Legend of the Crimson Youth (which I have seen many a time). One of the antagonists showed up, and introduced himself: Lynx Jaou (or Jaō). I thought about then name and essentially went: "cool, yep, new name. (b'-')b" It only made the whole name passably lore-appropriate for a Night Elf, so as you can see it's not at all lore-appropriate for a Keeper of the Moon, and still not lore-appropriate for a Xaela. Actually, it's not really lore-appropriate for anything in this game. >_>

Still, it was a nice sounding name, and obscure enough that most people wouldn't know where it came from. Now it just stuck, and I bring it to whatever game I play.

I take inspiration from various mythologies when I create characters for a fantasy setting, and I hadn't used Irish/Scottish/Gaelic in a long time. I checked a name dictionary ("bright-minded" "storm") and an index on mythology, choosing names for my retainers and chocobo that fit (e.g., my chocobo is snow white and named Lugh). I chose my jobs the same way (paladin, dragoon, and white mage are among my mains).

As for the last name, as you said it's literally wind and song combined. Not bad but it does hit the same as it might in English. You could always change it to Fuuta, since it means the same thing, in a way. Honestly Windsong sounds a bit better to me, sorry... forgive me. T.T

Uhm, shouldn't you read "風歌" as "Fūka". The only on-reading of "歌" i know and have learned is "ka". I could be wrong though, as Japan being Japan, most Chinese character has multiple on- and kun-readings, especially with names. I've heard people sometimes need to ask how to read their name when they recieve a business card.

As for me, I wanted to use "無限" somehow, meaning infinite/eternity. When I made my character, I always knew I will never change races. Once a lala, always a lala i guess. But instead of romanizing (is that a word? ) it in Japanese, I went with Korean so Muhan. Nam is a Korean surname that fits Muhan the most imo. Not sure if Koreans use Muhan as their first name though XD

I played Tales of Vesperia (back when it had first come out on 360) and got through the EX dungeon to unlock the cameo bosses from other games in the arena. One of them named Barbatos uses an mystic arte (like a limit break for Tales of) called "No Items Ever!" where he actively beats the hell out of a character that is using items. It could be a healing item, or just an item to analyze his stats, he will pound them into the ground and then send them flying with his axe.

Etoileaux Charbonnier

Etoile is french and means star. I got it from my real life pet rabbit whose eyes twinkle like little stars. "Star-eye-aux" would've been too long, so I shortened it to just "Star-aux". Charbonnier is, surprise-surprise, also french and means Coalminer. I came up with it when I gave my duskwight the darkest grey skintone, which made me think of sooth.

Later I made up a story to go along with the surname (moniker, really) that his Redbelly mom sold him to a Coerthan mine, because she couldn't provide for her other three children after her husband and eldest son were captured by Wood Wailers, and Etoileaux happened to be her least favourite child.

My name was kind of a combination of the in-game season of the year, Astral (sort of like Summer and June/Julia* are names we use irl), and Thalia was meant to be a variation of the patron Thaliak, one of The Twelve.

Later, some people have thought it was because of the Astrologian job, even though I made and named my character long before it was announced. Other times people have commented about a card named Thalia from Magic the Gathering, but honestly I didn't know about that card before they mentioned it (I play a bit of casual mtg sometimes with friends now after that).

* Would be Juli (month) -> Julie (name) in Norwegian, my native tongue (I've only met a handful of Scandinavians in-game)
