    NPC pricing...

    Just a thought....
I've seen it done in other games and I've always had a love/hate relationship with this, but:

When you go to sell a stack of Gridanian Walnuts to an NPC, the price depends on how many have sold recently?
Obviously each item would have a lower and upper cap.... but yea, if everyone is NPCing their walnuts, the vendors wont give you as much for them?
It could be how many walnuts have been sold to that particular NPC, in that region or just game wide (I've seen it done each way)

Also, while we are at it, what if certain NPCs paid more for certain kinds of things?
Like you'd get a few more gil for vendoring a ring at the GSM guild or a GSM merchant than you want a merchant who sells food

Im not for or against the idea... just thought it would be something different...

They had that in UO and that is lame because then if its a item that sells a lot it means you hardly get anything for your efforts. In turn if its an item thats often bought that means the price is always at its maximum

yea... thats true... they could cap the price though... no lower than 80% of the normal sell price and no higher than 120%

That would actually work out kinda horribly here. First off, there's a number of items that are ONLY purchasable from NPCs, and there are other items whose only use is to be sold to NPCs (Beastmen currency for example). This change would wreck both of these.

Well if they added a "stockexchange" it should obviously only target things from players for players and not npc-only items. For materials and materia this might work quite well since you get your money right away as a seller and you don't have to run through all wards to get enough cheap materials.

Under this change, any item that is only purchasable from NPCs would skyrocket in price (Can you imagine a world where you need 100K just to buy the weathered item to start a new class?), and this would also affect any synthesis recipe that uses NPC only ingredients (Mainly culinarian recipes that use ingredients such as Sour Red). This would also make any item that's just for selling to NPCs, like the aforementioned currency, even more useless.

The only way it wouldn't wreck these is if the maximum/minimum prices were fairly close to the original prices... but in that case, why even bother having this system?

I was suggesting it for stuff you sell to the NPC... not stuff you buy... especially not finished items that you buy
