It won't be that many. A handful at best. And they'll be back within a month once they realize how silly it is to quit over something that has no effect on game play. Not to mention the number of people who will likely join because they think the female viera are cool will by far outnumber those who actually quit.

Pretty much this.

The people that join will greatly outweigh the people that leave.

They already gave out FF14 base game free to a lot of people with twitch prime. Its still free up until May, so a lot of time to keep drawing in more and more people.

That being said, the new race will definitely entice new people into joining and sticking around.

In part. But we've already seen posts from people who joined the game because they heard Viera was coming, only to be disheartened by it lacking males. That can really make the new car smell wear off quick for some people.

Someone that joined just to play male Viera and then left isn't really a loss to SE nor are they the targeted customers, since races are not what SE is showcasing for FFXIV in all their trailers.

Those that were playing a long time and left for male Viera on the other hand, will be back as soon as the expansion drops. Because what made them stick around all these years is still there. If not, then the game was already not proving to be worth of their subscription for a long time and they decided that it's time to finally quit.

Viera are in this game the same way they have been in ANY game ... So someone who is a "massive fan" of the viera race got what they love.

Anyone who wouldn't play this game over such a thing prob wouldnt play or sub much more than 1 month regardless IF that.

Same with long term fans. Anyone who is fickle enough to stop playing a game that never had Viera (and didn't even need to make Viera) just because theres no males is prob not playing the game anyway and as such wouldn't be a long term player...

Companies don't get this big by making long term investments with that logic.

Why bother making new races, then? By your logic, the people who were here until now will continue to be here with or without Viera of any gender, and with or without Hroth. By that logic there's also no need to listen to any player request because they're supposedly doing just fine anyway, other than people who couldn't be satisfied anyway - but both Viera and Hroths are in the game in any capacity because people asked for them.
And if it's not meant to draw in new customers, then... why? Sounds like a waste of resources, especially when people have been clamoring for better character creation options for years.

New races are important to many but seriously the un sub card gets pretty old. It's really tired and worn out on this forum. Been listening to that tune since i got here 5 years ago. i am happy they made new ones but it'd certainly not affect my playing this game if I didn't get any or ones that i wanted. There is way too much here to just toss it away.

I'm gonna remix that but in a way you probably already heard too - a lot of people who unsub over these things don't come tooting their horns on the forums. They just leave.
