When I log in now I log in put myself up for a party and then go craft or gather, what's the difference ?

You make it sound like adding yourself to a queue and AFKing (people used to do this in FF11 all the time) is such a bad thing, I already said the game as it currently stands nobody talks they just gather and craft.

This isn't true though because we all talk in our LS, which is the whole point, if i want to log in and do random content with random people I don't know why I shouldn't be able to?

I will be talking to my LS members no doubt whilst I party with people anyway, If you have a good LS you don't really need to make new friends IMO

If you lack good LS people go out and recruit some new ones
