First let me say this; don't get me wrong I'm not totaly agaisnt a content finder, I'm agaisnt a cross server one.

In a setting where solo play is the preferable way to play the majority of the game for most people, a system that eliminates any need for social interaction (it groups you up with a required setup, it sends you to destination and transports you back once its over) will then only foster non social interactions.
Just cause your'e in a party doesnt mean you are actualy interacting with others, especial in XIV's which has little interaction between party members roles other then healer heals tank, damage dealers hit monster.

The days where experience adventures be it dungeons or other, togheter as a group of players intertacting with eachother and learning to work togheter, is fading away in favor of systems that let's you get to the loot faster.
Loot was always the reason to go do a dungeon, but many times the reward could be somehting more meaningful, like befriending a new person.
If that person is from another server you are less likely to care about learning to know eachother since the chance you see eachother again is very slim.

A cross server content finder is hardly the only reason for this decline in social interaction in modern mmo's but it certinaly does contribute to that end.

I'll say again, I'm not totaly agaisnt a content finder, I'm agaisnt a cross server one.
And I belive a well designed MMO with an active playerbase can survive well without having one in the first place, I assume we all hope the game will take off come 2.0 and have a healthy community afterall.
Then if that's not the case and the population numbers being small is impacting the chance to get a dungeon going, that would be a time where patching in such a system would be a good idea.

I accept your views but i believe your wrong, Just cause I'll have a slim chance of meeting someone again doesn't mean I'll be hostile, In fact i will likely enjoy a good conversation with them like i have on many other MMO's. Although I would prefer that any content finder would in fact not be cross server I am not entirely against the Idea. I may not be able to keep the friends I meet on other servers and play with the the same way I play with the friends I have on my server but I will always have the option of using voice chat or a MSN type program to keep in touch if I find them truly interesting to talk to. I'd also like to note Blizzards real ID system that allows a player to add friends cross server and cross game and continue to chat with them and even play with them. The possibilities are endless and I'm sure SE will make a great choice for the future of FFXIV as they have done so far in redeeming the games reputation in my eyes.

I'd be ok with server only content finder, although in reality this will lower the pool of players so someone wanting to do low level content like Toto-rak may find it hard to find enough people to do it with.

You can look for anything in your own server using the search function, sure it doesn't auto group you up, that being said people still aren't using it.

OK i get it, Ppl are worried that the social interaction between players will suffer. But that's something that no one can know until SE has decided what system they want and when its in the game. If so many ppl are worried then just think about what it would be like if all those ppl reached out to one another.

When I log in now I log in put myself up for a party and then go craft or gather, what's the difference ?

You make it sound like adding yourself to a queue and AFKing (people used to do this in FF11 all the time) is such a bad thing, I already said the game as it currently stands nobody talks they just gather and craft.

This isn't true though because we all talk in our LS, which is the whole point, if i want to log in and do random content with random people I don't know why I shouldn't be able to?

I will be talking to my LS members no doubt whilst I party with people anyway, If you have a good LS you don't really need to make new friends IMO

If you lack good LS people go out and recruit some new ones

So, it's okay to be lazy on an MMORPG, where you can get everything by doing hardly nothing? Where people can just do everything with a few button touches? With no effort or all.....

Sure why not, I touch my buttons all the time.

Lets not be absurd though, I schedule events with my LS on a regular basis, this is what community is for me (linkshells and guilds) content finder would just be something different for when I don't want to take time to schedule an event.

It's nice to be spontaneous sometimes.

There's that time thing I was talking about. People will start getting in that time mind set. They don't wanna waist more time than they half to. Anyways, afk work.

I can't help but feel I'm part of a dying breed of MMO gamers so I might as well phrase myself as such.

Back in my day in the dawn of MMORPGs, getting a dungeone run whats more of an adventure, sure the carrot in the form of shiny items where still dangling in front of us, but the goal wasn't the enterainment, the journey was the game itself.
    To chalk it up.

10% was spent on gathering a comptetent group of players.
20% was spent traversing to the location of the dungeon in question, somethings this journey could itself pose challenges and hardships.
50% was spent actualy doing the dungeon, this includes party wipes and everything.
10% was spent focused on the actual loot.
The final 10% spent on chatting with eachother while the group disbanded/traveling back to the safety of a city zone.

Todays average MMO player seems very focused on just that carrot of loot, and will gladly accept any corners cut to reach that goal, to the where soon we just need to que for items instead of actualy have to fight or partake in any challenging content.

And yeah I know this is taken to extreme and sillyness on top of many scopes of nostaligia, but like I said I'll play the role of the old fart missing the "golden days".
Where MMORPGs actualy contained RolePlaying(and I dont mean the form of roleplaying as make-belief RPing a character) outside of stats and items, you know the type of RolePlaying that involves any sort of actual Adventure, like say forming a band and exploring a far away dark dungeon.

In this era of CoD instant gratification mindset I just wish at least one developer had the balls to actualy do their own thing instead of beign deathly afraid of doing anything that isnt considered mainstream, in a more then often feeble attempt to please as many as possible.

Oh well I've ranted enough, and I probably went off topic at some point there as well... Just had to get some of that out of my system I guess... ._.

Forget me for I am already gone

    @Choyi

"Old man" .. I am an "old lady" too..
It makes me sad to think back on all the amazing adventures I've ever had and realize with today's "rush rush! get the item NOW! No time for anything! Want it handed to me on a silver platter! Oh and I'd like fries with that!" generation, that I'll likely never find true adventure in an MMO ever again.

    One can hope though..
