Why not both? They could if they wanted to.
If they added more customization options for existing races I might actually use the other free fantasia I got during ARR. First one was used just to re-do my tail. I'd like to see more face, tail, ear options atleast.
Though I'll probably only make an alt to see Viera customization options it would be nice if they had a ears down option for them like Lops.
One can argue that the new races come with new models.
Kek.

I think the current races could really use some more features and that would be a good middle ground and compromise for people wanting more character customization options. I get that having sliders or body drastic changes is not possible, but they wouldn't need to change a whole lot of features nor animations or textures. Just create a new base for faces like they do with specific npcs. Perhaps a new eye or mouth shape if these aren't too hard...
I believe that at least two more face options for each race would make a huge difference and bring more diversity to the game, much like adding new hairstyles do. Of course, a hairstyle is much easier than a face for each race (one for each clan), but still, it's not a sophisticated and impossible request, at least imo.

Do you mean Alphinaud and Alisaie have a similar face or body type to Hilda? Because if you're meaning body type, Hilda is (at a game-programming level) just a max-height Midlander with a unique face and modified ears.Seconded. Also Alphinaud and Alisae models look very close to Hilda (or rather she looks a lot like them), who is a half-breed (go check that shit out). They already have these face options available (technically speaking); quite simply its allowing certain customization options to be cross-race (im pretty sure Aymeric has elements from the old elezen face--as does Baron Fortemps). Elezens need the most love as do male highlanders. Elezens need some of those softer Ishgard models and highlanders need some of the Garlean face options.
Also, "Baron Fortemps" - I assume you mean Count Edmont - is actually using a modified version of Au Ra face #4. It's quite unmistakeable once you can see it.
And I'm not sure if it's an exact match, but I think Aymeric at least has similarities to Au Ra face #3 (the younger-looking one, eg. Sidurgu), and Lucia to female face #4 (eg. Sadu).
Those characters would have been worked on at the same time they were making the Au Ra race, so it seems like they might be doing some clever shortcuts on their workload there. I'm not complaining about it, but I think it's interesting to see that they did it.
It makes me wonder how many other "unique" NPC designs might be using the same tactic. It occurred to me yesterday that Asahi might have a Miqo'te face, but I need to have a closer look at that one.

I wish we would at least get more face paints and tattoos.
We got new face paints twice in ARR, but since then nothing was added anymore, only hairstyles.

They said they don't want to make any new races and adding a different body type to an existing race would require pretty much the same level of modelling work as adding a new race.
The issue is that each piece of gear added to the game needs to be adapted to fit every different model/skeleton type. That means that each race and each gender of each races requires separate work. If you add one race with two genders your increasing the workload for every item by two. It makes it harder and harder to add new items.
This is the reason they aren't promising adding the other genders of the new races yet. They need to figure out how they will manage the additional workload. Beyond that, I seriously doubt we will see any new model types for playable characters for the same reason. They are close to the limit of what they can manage at the moment and adding more will just mean we get less for what we already have.
New face and options for the existing customisations might be a thing that could happen though.

They shouldnt of added Hrothgar and Viera to begin with and allocate all resources to better balancing and more endgame content. They didnt, why?
And my response to that is get real.
There are way more pressing issues like balancing the healers, and balancing in general. Need more end game content besides savage raiding. The end game is incredibly weak, and if they want people to stay active they need to fix that. Give people more things to do.
That is way more important than "Mah bunny bois" please, stop with the nonsense. The expansion isn't even out yet, and we have to put up with this non-stop whining? Hell this is gonna be possibly 2 years of people crying over this nonsense.
Keep your male bunny thing to a single thread and stop spreading it around.
/Rant over.
Why dont you complain about that?

I would LOVE to have Cid's face as an option... or at least his hair/facial hair?
The other thing I'm really hoping for is that Hrothgar "fur" is more tied to hair instead of skin, so I can change my color at the aesthetician. A dream I'm sure, but I've still got my fingers crossed ;p

As the alt-o-holic I am, I support having more character models. I actually think that'd make me more excited than a new race, haha.
