The reasons given by the development team aren't lore based. Their resource based, and honestly the majority of people have been pretty understanding in regards to this. The worst this discussion gets is "Why did you dedicate those resources to making an animal version of one of the least played races?"

    But putting that aside...

The Viera lore isn't exactly a good reason for a genderlock. Female Viera lore is pretty identical (sept female viera give up their family and society to adventure while male viera would give up... Living like a hobo in the woods?), but lets disregard Viera lore for a moment

"There aren't enough Male Viera" This was the same reason for male miqote not being playable...
"Male Viera want to stay in their homeland" this is the same reason given for female highlanders not being playable...
"Male Viera will suffer cultural repercussions if they leave" As do Au Ra of both genders...
And lets not forget the other playable things with lore scarcity, White Mage, Summoner, Red Mage, Warrior...

Theres lore precedent against literally every "lore reason" to not make em playable. Putting aside the fact a playable Male Viera would have the Echo which would probably make them more likely to adventure in general

I really don't get the lore purism that comes up with male Viera... Are people mad Y'shtola isn't spending half her time in a Y tribe harem? Or that a Gridanian raised a Padjal outside of Gridania? Or that Hildabrand survived falling from Dalamud and being buried for literal years? Why only lore purism when it explicitly comes to limiting the options of other people?
