Strange fps drops in kugane ohashi

    Hello there!

Since the new patch i've noticed strange fps drops when it comes to the kugane ohashi encounter. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I got a new RX 590 Nitro + card, i play max normally. The only place i suffer fps drops is in Eureka (Due to loads of players i guess) My CPU however is an I5 4690k

I don't know if this is an issue with my computer or if it's just the patch?

For example. First starts, all well and good, once spell effects (Or if i turn my camera around) It goes from 60-55-51 fps. It's strange because this is the only encounter so far i've had to lower my settings for. I had to set it to Standard to get a solid 60 fps.

Has anyone else had this problem within the new trial?

Good afternoon and thank you for posting in the Final fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Does the fps drop anywhere else outside Eureka? Outside the new graphics card, were any changes or updates made to your graphic settings? Could you also provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

    Hope to see you online!

It only happens in the kugane ohashi Trial. Eureka as well, but that's expected with 100+ people on the screen i suppose! hehe, i've managed to stop that fps drop though by limiting the amount of shown on the screen.

The main issue is the new trial only.

I haven't had any other changes to my computer other than the new card (which was an upgrade to my previous) This one allows me to play max, where the card i used to have only let me go up to high/standard.

    Here is my system report.

    Just an UPDATE.

So i figured out. If i face directly at the boss (The middle) I'm fine, no fps drops at all. (I didn't face the boss in this picture because i don't want to spoil it for people who are yet to fight it. But you get the idea i hope? )

Ok, so turning left or right. Facing these buildings, give me the fps drop. I don't know if it's an issue with my card or cpu, or anything related to the instance itself. But i thought i'd throw this in here in case.

Also to let you know. Turning down settings DID help, but given this is a new card, i'm slightly confused why this is happening. As this is the only place (aside from Eureka with 100+ people) It's happening in.

Just found out turning off Screen space ambient occlusion gets rid of this fps drop. I think i found the solution. Turning this off for the encounter has given me solid 60 fps. Going to try an encounter now. So far it seems to be fine, i'm just moving around.

Ok so turning it to Standard laptop solved the fps drops. Again tho, quite strange.... Oh well!

Thank you, i just noticed that. Doh! I'll update it Thanks for the help!

Just tried the update. No changes, but i can at least play the encounter if i set the graphics lower. Just a shame that it's this one trial.

Thanks for the help Dynratygus, i appreciate it.

Rydian, thank you for the reply.

You could also try and change the window size. Try seeing if the fps drops when FFXIV is on windowed mode, full screen or borderless full screen.

    Hope to see you online!

I did try that, sadly no change. But it's ok. At least running it on lower graphics helped a bit It might just be a certain thing my graphics card isn't agreeing with.
