    Tanking in 8 mans?

So everything has been going smooth up until now. Curious how this is supposed to go but a couple of times now, I have had an issue where I will pick up some of the stray adds but then the other tank will take issue with me pulling aggro and ask me if I just want to main tank. Now I guess then are these meant to be solo tanked? because I always end up being the new guy in the roulette that ends up pretty much just staying out of tank stance.

It's case by case. There's not really a universal yes or no that properly answers your question. Some instances actually have slots for only 1 tank (with 2 healers and 5 DPS). As for the ones such as you describe with 2 tanks, those two slots are there for a reason. However, individual preferences will still lead to variance at times; there's more than one way to do things. Also, some of the older instances used to greatly benefit from dividing the tanking but have become easier over time as people's gear improves beyond what it was at the duty's debut. And sometimes the situation is more complicated than just who's tanking; sometimes adds need to be taken to specific areas and so forth.

So ... we could offer more guidance if you say specifically which duty you're talking about. But in general, safe bet would be to just ask the party what they want.

Your co-tank taking issue about you taking aggro sounds more like you taking aggro off boss than the adds. I can be wrong because it's Castrum and you are WAR and your only spammable AoE damage and enmity skill is Overpower. Castrum and Praetorium are big mess of mobs and 8 players with incomplete toolkits so it's bit hard to make any sense of them.

In 8-man (and 24-man in that matter) content in general there is the tank who pulls the boss and holds aggro however he sees fit as long ah he keeps it and the other tank (in this case you) focus on dealing as much damage to the boss while avoiding pulling aggro (aka. no aggro combo and no tank stance). You also pull all the extra adds that spawn and pull them to the boss so DPS can burn them down with AoE (unless otherwise is said or they cannot be moved)
