The "gogogo" mentality has been here since ARR... Wall to wall pulls aren't new at all, don't forget Praetorium/Castrum being rushed to farm for Darklight gear.

WoW raids and FF14 duties are similar. People are generally understanding in a learning/first time group, but joining a farm party and not knowing what to do isn't acceptable in either community.

Regarding roulette dungeons themselves between the two in my experience, people in FF14 have more of an attitude... Stormblood "Healers adjust."

We didn't have walls back then so it was Boss to Boss pulling. Even in the first two expert dungeons. Especially in Wanderers Palace.

Course nothing beats Swarmkiting in one of the two Everquests. Tanks in both EQ and EQ2 will literally pull anything that can be targeted. Mobs, NPCs, Quest Givers, anything they let you attack and they let their ripostes tear them down. You all haven't seen stress untill you've literally had a tank pull over 300 mobs. Exp was pretty good though.

As a 10+ year Wow player its unfortunate to see the community end up like this, however its understandable when alot of Wow's old fans have resentment, and feel hurt as they watch a game they love start to deteriorate.

The FFXIV community is the embodiment of the love and devotion to better the game that the developers have. I understand all communities will have toxic players I'm not stupid enough to think FFXIV is free of any keyboard trolls and I understand FFXIV has stricter rules regarding chat but that's not what I'm talking about. From personal experience I have never since the days of Burning Crusade met a community like this...Players going out of there way to message you and ask if you need help because they see you're a sprout, random players stopping in and helping in the open world when they see you're about to die or you may have bitten off more than you can chew attacking a lvl 50 world boss as a lvl 35.....RIP

I personally have added more "Random People" to my friends list in this game than I have in the entirety of my time playing Wow. Players interact with each other in the game and on the forums as if they where a family... warm, embracing and truly there to help if you need anything.

During the beta test and early days of ARR a portion of XI players were hostile twords the direction FFXIV went. The comments I seen were more or less they wanted FFXI just brought to the modern era in terms of graphics and sound and were very angry and very vocal about FFXIV not being like that. In time it settled down and eventually stopped just as this stigma surrounding WoW players will to I'm sure.

So now that I'm done with that I want to get into my questions.

Do you think the mass influx of "Wow Refugee" players will positively or negatively effect the community as a whole? And how so?

As a FFXIV player what are things that you would like to see change (or not change) within the game?

What is one thing you would want to say to "Wow Refugee's" before they enter the community?

Looking forward to seeing your responses! Thanks
WoW players didn't bring the toxicness, FFXIV's popularity did. No different like WoW's popularity brought it there, as did LoL, Overwatch and any other online game that grows to a very large size. The more people that play it and the more that come bring both the good and the bad, and sadly the bad often outshines the good most of the times.

WoW is just the currant bogeyman in this. During ARR and the games beta test it was a portion of the former FFXI player base for largely the reason you pointed out.

I used DF to do a Ramuh Extreme shortly after coming here from WoW, because I had a quest and thought that'd mean it would be easy.

Nevermind the difficulty being considerably higher than literally anything you can queue for in WoW. What shocked me was, after wiping almost until the time limit and finally getting him down- nobody was cussing others out for not knowing what to do or making mistakes. Nobody was demanding someone be votekicked or getting angry.

What they were doing was giving instructions, suggesting different ways to go about the next try. It felt like for the hour or whatever I was in a pleasant progression group learning a new raid (completely new to me, I imagine to some others in the group too). And perhaps most shocking to me of all, because this is something I don't think I've seen in years in WoW despite putting thousands of hours into the game each year...

Nobody left the group. We did it with the same group we came in with. And we were failing for that long- in WoW, not only does it turn toxic quickly, with the votekicks and threats, but it turns toxic with things like 'pulled too slow' or 'pulled a trash pack that was skippable'. If you get a random heroic with new max levels still poorly geared, still making it an easy dungeon to do- even with no problems, someone will leave after the first boss because it isn't maximum efficiency speed. And heaven forbid you wipe once- half the group leaves instantly every time. If I queue for island expeditions as a healer, I get kicked before the first pull 1/3 of the time.

The experience I've had here so far has been extremely pleasant and positive. It feels like the community is night and day- even the dev team seems much more excited about what they're doing here.

This is the experience I've had since I started here, too. I've seen a couple of groups fall apart, but I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen that happen while using DF.

I used to play WOW from 2004-2011 until i dropped it for XIV in 2011.
So I have pretty decent experience in both, but seeing as I havent seen how the WOW community has changed after I quit, I cannot say. But it doesnt matter what game you play or used to play. It all comes down to the person and their attitude towards other fellow players
If someone behaves badly in RL they will bring that into the game, and since videogames comes with anonymity, they also become worse.

I do not care what game you come from. If you are nice to me, ill be nice to you. If you act like a brat, i'll treat you like a brat

Why people would act toxic towards others player who shares the same interest in the game, is beyond me.
I treat every player ingame as if I talk to the player face to face in real life and with respect

The only impact I am seeing on the community is that Crystal is rapidly filling up with experienced raiders looking to join groups. Mostly because the other teo dataservers are often locked. They just lack FFXIV raid experience.

One other thing I note is that they tend to be super nice because one reason they got burned out on WoW was the community there. They came here because they were told it was friendly, which it generally is, and they know more than most how valuable that is.

So... I am glad for them. We just need to get them to max level before they give up and go to ESO or something...

So far, I haven't noticed much change really. I do notice prior wow players tend to move in a group, like if two friends leave or a large social circle they all leave and come to FF14. That being said a lot more conversations in which I have no idea what they are talking about. Like inside WoW jokes about bad classes. I dont mind, I just listen. Other than that, not much of a difference really.
