Disclaimer: I love FFXIV, and I am excited about Shadowbringers. Final Fantasy has been a part of my life for over 25 years.
However, the way the new races are being presented has given me a sense of consternation. In a recent interview, Yoshi P says that they didn't have time to do male Viera. They decided to start working on Viera during Return to Ivalice, and managed only to get the females done by Paris Fanfest.
In that same interview, we find out that most headgear won't be visible on new races. Not being able to have a DRG or RDM helm/hat on your DRG or RDM is really bizarre, and a huge sign that they've really botched this implementation by rushing to completion.
Even the hrothgar leave something to be desired. To me they just look like furry roegadyn males with different heads. Not a whole lot of unique value. Especially when you consider that they won't be able to assume some of the most iconic Final Fantasy gear.
If things like this are too hard to add, I personally would rather have no new race at all.
Wouldn't it have been better to do one really good race in 6.0, and spend all of that time working on a new healer in 5.0?
I am a bit disappointed with this turn of events. Just some thoughts.
See you in Shadowbringers.
