    Ninja loot confusion.

Sometimes, when I roll greed on "of Scouting" gear, which is listed for NIN only, others (non-ninjas) also roll and get it instead. Can other classes use this gear. or are they just rolling to vendor it? (I pass on everything that's not listed for my job)

If its for your class, you should roll "Need" (if you need it, obviously) - only the classes that can use the gear can roll "need".

Everyone can roll "greed" though, wether they're on that class or not. Doesnt even matter if they've unlocked the job. People might roll greed for different reasons - gearing an alt-job, glamour for said alt-job, exchanging for some form of currency is also on the list, just like desynth.

If you want to prevent people from taking your nin-gear... roll need, thats what its for.

It's very common to roll 'Greed' on dungeon drops, because they can be turned into Grand Company seals. The current drops, from expert dungeons, can be exchanged for 1500 seals a piece.

Yep. Rolling 'need' means 'this is an upgrade for my current job.' Rolling greed means 'I'll sell this/use this for an alt job/use this for glamour' etc, or at least that's the intention.

Accessories can also be rolled on by ranged dps.

I wouldnt say that rolling need means "this is an upgrade for me" - someone might also roll need because they like the look or for the same reasons people roll greed (currency, desnyth etc.). And thats fine! Playing a certain job means you get dibs on that jobs gear, no matter why you want the gear.

Your choice if you want to make use of that dibs and roll need - or greed it out with everyone (for example if you're only after seals and feel like giving everyone a chance - obviously you dont have to do that though, its perfectly fine to roll "need" when the game allows you to do so)

Reasons ppl might roll greed on loot not for their current job

    1) To upgrade an alt job
    2) For glamour for an alt job
    3) To trade in for Grand Company Seals
    4) For Desynthesis item results
    5) For Desynthesis skillups

2-5 might also be reasons why you see someone Need on gear for their job that is lower ilvl than what they are wearing.

That's quite literally the definition of "greed". The rule is that you can need only gear that's suitable for your class but greed is always available (unless loot is restricted to one item per week and you already got yours).

I only roll need on gear if it's an upgrade (not likely at this point) or if I want it for glamour, but I greed nearly everything else. There are a few items I do not consider worth the effort of even greeding like the faded music sheets from the Labyrinth of the Ancient raid series.

Typically when im running a dungeon i roll greed on everything that drops without even looking at the items(early in a patch/expansion i also check if its an upgrade to what im using). I assume that if you need an item for your class youll roll need and take it. Im also willing to pass on a drop if someone asks nicely. If you dont roll need or ask for something then my wanting seals/desyn fodder is just as valid as whatever you want the item for.

I pretty much always greed everything and I’ll also roll need on items that drop for my job even though they aren’t upgrades for me. I only don’t roll need if someone else in the party is playing a job that shares the same gear as my job and I’ve seen that they could actually use it for an upgrade. And I’ll pass if someone specifically asks if they can have a certain item if it drops.
