...has the Garlean throne always resembled Zodiark?

Have we been looking at the very origins of the Garleans all along?

After the 4.56 cutscenes it just jumped out at me, and I can't believe I never noticed it.

I'm trying to search Google for anything that mentions it, and I can't seem to find anything here, but has this been in plain sight all this time?

I mean the Garleans were confirmed as a nation that was created specifically by the Ascians a few patches ago. So it makes sense. I never noticed it either though, huh. But if you watch Solus' introduction it's there. It's also apparently been around since the first anniversary.

Went and re-watched some clips of the throne and I honestly can't see much of a resemblance. :/

Perhaps stretching it a bit I could see how the side parts of the throne could be compared to the sides of the XII Zodiark.

Doesn't really look like the statue of Zodiark from 2.3 though.

Yeah, that's what I mean. I remember the revelation that the Garlean Empire was started by an Ascian, but BEFORE that happened, I never looked at the throne properly.

...the resemblance - if only of the outer parts - is clearly there.

Not saying it's identical, but a clever way of making something resemble another without outright making it obvious.

It also strongly looks like his FF12 design, with the 'fish' body making up the top, and a modified side motif.

I've seen both the throne and the statue from 2.3 [The picture you linked is from 2.3 Defenders of Eorzea and the statue I mentioned before] and I honestly don't see any resemblance.

I even went to look at the Defenders of Eorzea trailer that the Zodiark screenshot is from to see when they zoom in on it. I'm sorry, just think its reaching in my opinion.

This one I agree too, you could compare the sides of the throne to the XII model.

Those protrude backwards from behind the statue, slant outward then loop back connecting into the base like, well big bunny loops. Its easier to see in the trailer than in the front on screenshot. I can see now why you see a resemblance though and where, though knowing how the statue is I don't feel the throne was designed as a nod to it. Would still say I agree with Enla in that is resembles XII Zodiark.

Even curling back, the overall shape remains similar.

Like I said, if they were to make it TOO obvious, it'd spoil the surprise, so making it look SIMILAR, yet not identical, would make sense.
